I think we're waiting to see if Blade wants to drink an invisiblilty potion and go open the door across the hall.

It's either that or we head to the conference room (Angel and Ashe in the lead).

Once the door is unlocked, Angel will move to the door and open it. (trying to use as much cover as I can)

I may use a power depending on what I see.

Blade drinks a vial and disappears from sight completely! stealth 4+11=15, so some PCs can still pinpoint him though. The rest of the huge foyer looks empty. Blade then 7+6+4=17 theivery successfully unlocks the locked door. (New item helped I think 3/4 times so far.)

Barely cracking it open, Blade sees 2 small 3' statues of spearmen with odd faces next to the door, a desk, a large sarcaphogus with 2 Vamps feeding near it, the 2 victims they're feeding on, and what looks like 2 more recently dead bodies.

No initiative until you guys get spotted, so whatever actions you all want to do next, I'll post initiatives once 'real' action starts... On that note, sorry I've been away for a couple days, sick as all get out. Sad

Okay, the foyer is currently empty, and you know exactly where Blade is, so Angel is by the N door next to the invisible Blade. stealth 10+10=20

    Telgarth is behind them.

    Who does what next?

Right now the formerly locked, closed door is barely cracked open just enough for Blade to peer in. Opening the door so the party can see in will also alert those inside and will end non-combat rounds. (Perhaps Blade shouldn't have been able to crack open the door without alerting them anyway, but I was trying to save time plus I wasn't positive about the rules.)

    Hmm...

Blade's turn is before mine since he want ahead and unlocked/opened the door. I'll have to wait to see what he does.

I believe the NPCs have to use their passive perception to see if they noticed the door was opened a little.

If they haven't noticed us then we get a surprise round.

If we get a surprise round them I'll either use a move or standard depending on what Blade does.

Against a DC10? DC15? It doesn't seem it ought to be tied to stealth of the PC, since you're not trying to hide from view, but trying to move a large object (door) in plain view of the NPCs...

They could be busy or otherwise occuppied. (penalty to their check)

If the door is noisy (bonus to their check)

I think our stealth would come into play. Maybe they notice the door is slightly ajar, but don't hear anything from the other side.

Waiting on Ashe & Ember, both whom haven't posted their actions for what we'll call 'turn #1'.

    "Turn #1:
When the door first opened, did the NPCs detect the door opening or Blade? <No indications you have been detected.> Could they detect the party? <You don't think so, but as I said, I'm not sure I am ruling that right; cracking open a door that NPCs knew was locked (& closed) might auto start initiative rolls but that's not how I roleplayed this encounter.>

When Angel moved up to the door did they notice? <Not that you can tell>
When Telgarth moved up did they notice? <Not that you notice>

We're assuming they didn't notice since no NPC took an action. <good assumption... probably>

    Turn #2:
Are the NPCs aware of the PCs before Angel's action? If not I believe we get a surprise round. <Again, you have no indication that you've been spotted at all.>
Since the door is unlocked and partially open, do I have to use an action to open the door farther before I move in? <Nah, at worst we'll consider it difficult terrain for the first one through.>"

I think our stealth would come into play. Maybe they notice the door is slightly ajar, but don't hear anything from the other side. <But if the occupants are sure the door was locked, not hearing noises outside wouldn't lessen the alarm to find it open. How often do their bosses or anyone else come in?

At work I face the door and would definitely notice if it were opened. Another guy at work faces his window and usually works with an iPod playing. I have to go in and tap on his desk before he notices I'm right behind him.

I think it's really going to come down to what you have the NPCs doing at the time the door was opened and what DCs you set.

Not sure how far I am away from where the rest of the group is and/or where the bad guys are. If I am less than one charge away from them I will keep where I am. If I am out of charge range then I will move to where I believe I could get at least get a shot off on some of them (10 squares away). Being Stealthy of course.

As of right now, only Blade can see, but they're doing what I posted... feeding. Unlike the other encounters, Blade sees a couple finished off victims though too. All the rest were careful not to finish off (yet) any of the victims.

The party moves into the large empty foyer to the N door.

Blade, you feel your invisibility is almost up and it's your action. You can still hear the money machine going in the large conference room to the W, and you see the N room through the barely cracked open door. The whole party seems to know where you are despite your invisibility, but as far as you can tell, no NPCs have noticed any of you...

Free: I will use an Assassin's Shroud on one of the feeding Vampires.
Standard: Executioner's Noose on the same one I Shrouded.

    Executioner's Noose
You gather shadows into the form of a noose, cast it around your foe’s neck, and pull.
    At-Will Force, Implement, Shadow
    Standard Action Ranged 5
    Target: One creature
    Attack: Dexterity vs. Fortitude
Hit: 1d6 + Dexterity modifier force damage, and you pull the target 2 squares. The target is slowed until the end of your next turn.

Blade takes full advantage of his invisibility and 16+6+2CA=24 v Fort, and the feeding female takes a mortal wound but is still walking, talking.

The male Vampire immediately reacts and attacks Blade. The Eladrin the woman was feeding on tries to slow him down by punching him as he went by, but sorely missed. The Vamp on the other hand, 14+11=25 hits Blade, for 5 hits + 7 flurry.

After the male Vamp who was first, initiative is:

    Angel 25
    Blade 22
    Ember 22
    baddies
    Ashe 10
    Telgarth 10

    Angel's turn.

Correct and sort of. The door is currently blocked and Blade took a surprise round, then I rolled initiative. The Vamp was 1st, you were 2nd, Blade is 3rd.

Both sides should get to go in the surprise round. All of the PCs should get a standard action, not just Blade.

If they didn't detect Blade before he went then they were surprised and don't get to act.

The PCs were definetly aware of the NPCs and I didn't think they detected the PCs...

I need you all to work with me on the maps. I'm trying to post a map roughly every other PC's turn. A map was posted exactly 2 actions ago. I'm not going to post them more frequently than that as it is a cumbersome process.

Which target? The 'dead' Vamp at the door, or something else?

I believe the "dead" vampires still block movement. Someone will have to dust it before we can get into the room.

Yes, they do. I ruled the other way initially, but you all made convincing arguments that was a bad call and I agreed. We switched the ruling after that. We'll say that one time was some tertiary affect of the Orpheus drug.

PCs cannot go through a 'dead' but not dusted Vampire's square. They are still special case up with single move actions only until they regenerate or extended rest.

Telgarth's last action was to move into the room.

He can't do that since there is a "dead" vampire blocking the way.

He'll have to revise his actions...

Yes, waiting on Telgarth's actions. Plus, we're in the middle of what for many is a 3-day weekend...

With smartphones/netbook/laptops there should be little reason not to post.
I was over in Ellensburg with the kids for a winter campout this weekend and I was checking from there.

Say "Telgrath, wait for me to clear the way"

Uh, oh... Big whoops! I'm not sure why we were waiting on Telgarth, I think it's because he posted first, but...

bradly wrote:[After the male Vamp who was first, initiative is:

    Angel 25
    Blade 22
    Ember 22
    baddies
    Ashe 10
    Telgarth 10

So far we had a surprise round (where Blade 'killed' a Vamp), then top of the order where a Vamp attacked Blade and Angel 'killed' the Vamp back. All the other discussion got us all off I think.

Anyway, Blade's first regular turn, then Ember... and not Telgarth for a while. Sorry about that! :-/

Here's the last map again (reposted) as a refresher so you don't have to go looking so far back...

The only difference is that the Vamp at the door is 'dead' and Angel shifted SE1.

LS would require an attack roll. Blade finishes off the 'dead' Vamp next to him with a coup de grace. Any move or minor actions?

    Ember's turn after that...

Blade shifts N 1 after he dusts a dead Vamp.

That wasn't a Vamp, but a little 3' tall stone looking staue of a spearman, but you 12+6=18 v ref hit for 16 fire damage. (Ouch!)

    Baddies turn...

The other 'dead' Vamp moves adjacent to Blade's NE

The Gaurdian W of the door stabs forward with his spear at Blade and 11+9=20, hit, for 8 hps and Blade is marked.

The Gaurdian to the E moves N 2 and 5+9=14 misses, as his little spear telescopes out into incredible reach!, but misses.

The 2 still alive captives are furiously working on their bonds, which you think will take them another couple rounds or so.

Ashe's turn, then Telgarth (who NOW must use final unlock!)
