If you used your encounter power, it isn't available again.

Correct. You need to take a 5 min rest to recover your encounter powers.

On my next turn I'll use Lion's Den as a standard, then Lion's Den as a move.

Vamp from S: "Looky, looky... I think there are more fiesty ones up the stairs!" moves to stairs and 10+11=21 hit, for 5 necrotic +7.

Brad, you should state who the vamps are attacking. I didn't know it was attacking Ember.
She will use Firedeath on the hit for 7 damage.

    Trigger: You take damage
Effect: All damage dice rolled for the triggering
attack are considered to have a result of 1.

Standard: MBA on the one in front of her with pointier end of her short staff.

if she misses she will shift back one up the stairs.
if she hits and dust it she will move 1S & 1E

I think the 7 is from the vampire's secondary attack (FoB, no damage roll). They're also minions so Firedeath won't work on the initial attack either.

Your best bet is to use your staff interrupt if you can. Then you wouldn't take any damage.

Don't have the staff interupt until after their attack.
I guess I take the full damage and don't use the Firedeath

Staves are wood... I'll allow a pointy staff to work, but only after you customize one. (normal ones are blunt, and can't pierce the heart)

    4+6=10 miss. Shift N.

I didn't roll for Ashe yet, but Blade missed this round again. VERY unlucky rolling for both of you. If you look back through the posts, you can see everyone else needs a '15' save for an unlock, Blade (not drugged by Orpheus) only needs a regular save of '10', and with Ashe's pills is getting a +2 and only needs a '13'. It doesn't make sense to me why you two have the least unlocks, but I'm guessing it'll even out eventually. Regression toward the mean and all...

Looks like I forgot she picked up her staff/cane last round. 12 still misses though. (by quite a bit) Thanks for the catch though!

Goto the top of the stairs, change weapon to Crossbow, shoot down at the closest vampire I can see.

Is it a minor or move to sheath a falchion? Blade moves, draws crossbow (part of movement, right?), and 20+8=28 crit, 14 hits, and the Vamp in front of Ember explodes into dust. (Even with the worst luck with unlocks, I think Blade now has 50% of the party kills!)

The Vamp by the front door moves to flank Angel 5+11+2=18 miss (barely!)

The Human looking figure draws his pistol and shoots at Ember atop the stairs 3+10=13 miss.

    Bad round for the NPCs...

Angel's turn '8' no new unlocks. Intended action was to Lion's Den x2, but the stairwell is now blocked and I'm not sure where he wants to go.

Angel should have gone before the NPCs

Lion's Den has an attack and a movement technique.

I wanted to use my standard to attack and my move to shift.

    Lion's Den [Attack Technique]
You jab, step to the side, then assume an offensive posture from which you can sting any foe that draws near.

    At-Will Full Discipline, Implement, Psionic
    Standard Action Melee touch

    Target: One creature

    Attack: Dexterity vs. Reflex

Hit: 1d6 + Dexterity modifier damage. Until the start of your next turn, as a free action, you can deal damage equal to your Constitution modifier to any enemy that enters a square adjacent to you.
    Level 21: 2d6 + Dexterity modifier damage.

    Lion's Den [Movement Technique]
    At-Will Full Discipline, Psionic
    Move Action Personal

Effect: You shift 1 square and gain a +1 power bonus to all defenses until the start of your next turn.

Ok, normally NPC of the same type have the same initiative.

Didn't know you rolled them separately...

Move: use Lion's Den movement to shift SW (+1 to all defenses now)
Standard: use Lion's Den attack on the one to my N (if I hit FoB on the one to my NW)

Since they're mostly minions, I nerfed the encounter a little by rolling each token seperately (since Maptools makes this easy). Otherwise it would have been murder/suicide for whoever came down the stairs first if they got the initiative. (Kind of like the bedrooms in opposite where they never got a swing in.)

Angel shifts, and 13+8=21 hit, and the Vamp explodes into dust and the Human takes a big hit.

Vamp to the E flanks Angel and '17' miss.

Vamp to the SW drinks the bound Dragonborn and seems to get a little energized...

Ashe's turn '10' no unlocks, and your token is off the map, but you are 4 squares behind Ember, so you can barely reach the Human shooting with a full move.

Then Telgarth'10' no unlocks, and are also 4 squares behind Ember. Note: It's getting bottlenecked on the bottom of the stairs.

Last Vamp after that, then top of the order.

    Ashe is next...

Are you using the Lion's Den buttion? If so it may be off.

The attack should be +5 vs Ref. If I rolled a 13 then that is 18 vs Reflex, hopefully still a hit.

Yes, it gave you a +3 proficiency bonus too. I assumed that was a monk unarmed thing, but now you're using a stake so it should be different. Anyway, you're lucky it's reflex, since that barely hit & would have missed AC.

Okay, the Vamp that flanked you received Lion bites as he moved in, and looks dead but not dusted.

None of my monk powers should use the proficiency bonus, they are all Implement powers and target Ref, Fort, or Will.

The only attacks that target AC and use the proficiency bonus is my MBA and Twin Strike.

I can't really use a stake as a weapon since there is no proficiency bonus and it would be consideren an improvised weapon and have a -4(?) to hit.

I'll have to "kill" them then finish them off later with the stake.

I'm catagorizing it as a 'simple weapon' if you carve one specifically for Vamp slaying, improvised if you break down a wooden door trying to make shards.

At the bottom of the stairs you are adjacent to the Mohawk tokened Human, so couldn't charge anyway but...

Ashe chivalrously charges in front of the pajama clad Ember and is about to take an MBA on the Human who shot at Ember last round when...

Through the dreamlike fog in your head from the Orpheus drug, you get distracted by a vision (think "the Mummy 2") of a Dragonborn warrior dressed in medieval garb from around 700 years ago with a Dwarf casting some sort of ritual on your sword & shield family crest. You then see them carefully remove 5 small ruby shards inlayed around a small yellow diamond from the hilt and place the precious stones in a hidden compartment in the backing of the crest. Once removed and hidden, some more chanting followed then you see the sword appear to tarnish up with small rust/wear spots that weren't there before. Then the vision fast forwards into a montage of different ancestors caring for and mounting the crest on their wall until you see you, as a small infant, watching your dad clean and remount the crest on the wall where it rests now...

You snap out of the dream/vision, still see a strange glow about your sword, and your turn is over and it's Telgarth's turn...

The hallway above the stairs is Blade, Ember, 1 space on the top part of the stairs, then Ashe on the bottom part of the stairs, then the Human blocking the bottom of the stairwell in the landing (who's taken damage already, so you know isn't a minion...)

Telgarth moves in and readies an attack.

Seeing his friends about to act, the killed Vamp yells, "Careful of this one, he has some sort of magic aura!"

The last Vamp to act only has a dagger besides his natural weapons and throws it at Angel... natural '1', miss.

Top of the order one Vamp gets to act again, throws a handaxe at Angel 20+11=31 crit for 5 hits. (& no flurry darn it) Angel is exactly bloodied, and the Vamps get a hungry look in thier eyes...

Ember's turn '16' unlocked something (you have 2nd wind, AP, & your at wills to choose from now). Because of the stairs, you can only see Telgarth, Ashe, the gunman, and Angel's feet from where you are.

Then Blade, '3' no unlocks (Wow, rolling horrible on saves!)

    then possibly some baddies...

Blade shoots at the Mohawk 13+8-5=16, miss (he has superior cover since you're so far down the hall above the stairs)

Human NPC draws a baton and 12+1=22 and thumps Ashe for 4 hits.

Angel's turn, and the lopsided distribution of saves continues... '17' and must use another new power.

    (then possibly more baddies...)

Angel: Hey guys I don't want you to miss all of the fun.

    Free Action: unlock Action Point

Standard: use Lion's Den attack on Mohawk (if I hit use FoB)

    use Action Point
    Standard:
    If the first attack hits...
Use Scattering of Leaves on Mohawk, shift one east and hit the vampire with my secondary attack pushing him east.

    If the first attack missed...
Use Lion's Den attack again on Mohawk (FoB on a hit)

Move: use Lion's Den movement technique to shift 1S (so that I'm not adjacent to anyone) and gain +1 to all defenses.

After some words of encouragement to his new friends, Angel 3+5=8 miss, then 8+5=13 miss, saving some fun for everyone else. ;-) I shifted you SW instead since you mentioned not being adjacent to anyone. Let me know if that didn't include the 'dead' Vampire...

    The 'dead' Vamp shifts SE...

The Vamp to Angel's S cuts his chest with his claw and holds the dying Dragonborn's head to his cut...

Ashe's turn next '19' must use breath this round, then Telgarth '11' no new unlocks. (then baddies again)

Dragon breath is a close blast 3 power. Can I angle it so it misses Angel? I think that would let me get Mohawk and the Vamp to the north east. I think the vamp to the east is just out of range.

Is there any way to get past this Mohawk guy so we can get out into the open? I feel a strong urge to head to the west wall for some reason.

If you start the breath to your SE then it will be 3x3 and get two vampires, but miss Mohawk.

If you hit Mohawk you'll also hit Angel.

The only way to get past Mohawk is to teleport or push/Bull Rush him.

Did you already use your standard action? Dragon Breath is a minor.

I have not used my standard.

Standard: Ashe will attempt a bull rush on Mohawk to push him 1S towards Angel. Str vs Fort
Minor: Dragon Breath using the SE corner of my square to get the 2 vamps but miss Mohawk.
Move: If the bull rush worked then I will shift SE. If the bull rush did not work I will switch places with Telgarth.

Ashe's turn: Bull rush 6+6=12 miss
Dragon Breath: 15+8=23, hit, 3+8=11, miss. The N Vamp combusts into flame & dust, the other one's fine. Wink

move action: Telgarth didn't have a ready action to switch with you and you can't ready a move, so I moved you behind Blade, the only available space out of the way. Telgarth's turn...

I believe the Mohawk guy is still blocking the stairway. You'll have to down him or push him before you can get into the room.

Note: in 4.0 you can't move diagonal around a solid obstacle (like the corner of the wall).

Telgarth shifts down the stairs and 18+9=27 hits for 14 hps and the Mohawk is bloodied.

Vamp to Angel's throws his other handaxe at Angel and 17+11=28 hit for5 hps.

The Vamp that was drinking moves N 1 to Angel and attacks. (The dead Vamp yells, "Watch out for that one!", but isn't heeded) He takes 7 hits going in and is not bloodied. 8+11=19, missed only because of Lion's Den.

Ember's turn '5' no unlocks, then Blade '14' must use new encounter power (about time.)

    Then possibly baddies then Angel.

...Looks like I need to make sure my cursor isn't on a token when I do screenshots. That's the dead minion's stats. I'll try to make sure future maps don't have that...
