    Miri's turn:

    Miri teleports NW
Miri can see a ladder in the NW corner of the room and another in the NE corner of the room.

There is also a closed door to the north.

At the end of Miri's turn she rolls a 7 and remains dazed.

    Mindstrike's turn:
The Mindstrike takes 5hp of ongoing damage.

West bowman shoots at Kaddim 19 vs Ac miss

Looks like I don't leave the thunder damage where I leave so I will revise my action to be:
Minor: Aegis of Shielding on Candelos
Move: Shift West, between Candelos and Mindstrike
Standard: Dimensional Thunder on Mindstrike (or on wounded bowman if we determine the strike is done when you arrive). Teleport 3 squares SW, onto bookshelf which I believe puts me adjacent to the bowman. Inflict 5 ongoing Thunder damage to bowman.

    Kaddim's turn:
Minor: Mark Candelos (removes the mark from the Mindstrike)

Kaddim can't tell though. He's definetely close to falling, but you have no way of knowing how close. (Well Kaddim could use his glasses as a standard action, I think they tell you current status/hp).

Kaddim is 7 squares away from the western edge and is unable to charge this round.

The Thoughtbow does seem to be moving faster than you, but you can move adjacent with a move/move action.

No, Kaddim is 7 squares from the edge, but then only has one square to move before the bowman. Not enough room for a charge once he gets to the edge.

If I move 5 squares first I can charge from there. It's a diagonal so I can still reach the square adjacent to the bowman.

    Sorry, I'm not following.

Moving 5 puts you two squares from the edge and one square from the target.

The only way you could move 5 and charge is if you can charge around the corner (which I didn't think was possible with out a special feat).

You can't move diagonal across the south west corner of the room.

Sorry, i was treating the bookshelves as the rows. With it blown up I can see the squares underneath better. I will move 6, then charge. Charge movement would be 2 west, and then diagonally to 1 northwest which should put me adjacent to the target.

I'm not changing direction. I'm going in a straight line toward my intended square which is the one adjacent to the enemy. Moving diagonal doesn't block me because that's not a wall.

Charge Movement Requirements: You must move at least
2 squares from your starting position, and you must
move directly to the nearest square from which you
can attack the enemy. You can’t charge if the nearest
square is occupied. Moving over difficult terrain
costs extra squares of movement as normal.

True it's not a wall, but there is nothing to support you either.

I think there should be a skill check involved.
Either an acrobatics check (DC15) to avoid falling off of the bookshelf.
Or an athletics check to jump across from the south shelves to the west shelves.

If that's the only choice then I'll go for the Athletics check. At least it's considered running jump.

Still don't see why I even have to though. Your only blocked by obstacles, which is stated very clearly in the diagonal movement rules. You can't even be blocked by a person in that square. So basically what your saying is that your stepping into the squares on either side of your path when moving diagonally, but that's not the case. If there were traps in those squares you just bypass them by going diagonally, you don't randomly step on one of the other sides.

By the way, your just reinforcing a reason to use hexes.

Kaddim moves 5, then attempts to jump/charge the Thoughtbow.
Athletics check 20+9 (grr rolls a 20...) success.

Basic attack on the Thoughtbow 25 vs Ac hits for 13hp. The Thoughtbow falls.

Just curious, why couldn't I have gone to the next square and then went diagonal? I only have to go one diagonal. How come it had to be a square back?

If you were one square forward, then there would only be 1 square between you and the thoughtbow and you need 2 to charge.

I don't mean starting in a square ahead. I'm talking about when i moved. You had me jumping through the empty space. It could easily have been me moving on the bookshelf one more square and then going kaddy corner to be next to the bowman. I should be able to make the diagonal whenever I wanted too.

Both are considered straight lines when using a grid actually. You just chose your straight line to be in the air.

The Library - Page 4 Empty Charge w 1 Diagonal Square

Post by Teramotos Thu Sep 17, 2009 2:52 pm

If it makes any difference at all, I do follow what's going on. The monster is just to the W and a little N of where the PC ended movement and begins the charge. Some where along the charge path, the PC will have to move a square to the north. Since the charge path is very short, as far as making a straight line, it doesn't matter if the diagonal square is the first or the last square of the charge. In this case (pun intended) the PC would have to actually make a jump if the diagonal square where the first square of movement. I'm of the position that the PC should get to choose the path of the charge if there is more than one correct path. Thus, I'd permit Kaddim to move one forward, then one diagonal to the NW to charge. If the DM insists on a jump check, the jump would be a running jump of less then 3' (should be an automatic make).

Standard Action: Magic Missle red. (should be +2 damage from bracers of perfect shot, and +2 more damage from Arcane Reserves feat since I used up all 3 encounter powers) 2d4+11 total

Move Action: run max 7 squares due E

    Minor Action: none
