    Assume 5 min rest to get encounter powers back and use another surge to get close to full up.

    As Quinn exists the "inferno" room the party has the following hp/surges
    Quinn 36/67 hp 10/11 surges
    Candelos 45/63 hp 11/14 surges
    Kaddim 62/71 hp 9/10 surges
    Thia 60/60 hp 7/7 surges
    Sonya 56/56 hp 9/9 surges
    Miri 50/50 hp 9/9 surges

    Assuming something does happen...

    How many surges do you guys want to burn?

    How did Thia take damage and lose healing surges? She also only has 60 HP and 7 surges per day.

    It appears that you have placed Candelos's stats after Thia.

    Thia will use the 5 minute rest to get back encounter powers and watch the inferno room and the hallway.

    I copied Candelos' data for Thia. I'll fix that.

    At the end of the session, some PCs wanted to rest, others wanted to start clearing a path through the barricade.

    For those resting, where will you be? On which side of the barricade or in the "lizardman" room?

    I am more then willing to stand on the steps watching for enemies. I will use enough surges to get back to full health (no idea what my surge value is so no idea how many surges it will take).

    After a couple of minutes this is what I have:
    Quinn 67/67 hp 8/11 surges

    I won't use any surges. I'm going to continue to clear out the debris to make a path through the barricade. After that I will warily check around the corner, and if I see anyone I'll fall back to full cover. If I see nobody I'll take the dead body on the other side of the room and bring it over to our side of the barrier, checking it for stuff.

    Also, didn't I hear Brad say to hit someone with non-lethal damage? If it's that guy across the room I will instead go over to tie him up and then start clearing the barrier.

    Yes, the guy on the other side is alive...

    After a minute or so of clearing debri, Kaddim says "hey, isn't that guy over there still alive".

    Thia looks over and notices that he's definetly conscious and looks to be signalling someone at the SE door (which is open slightly).

    Is the Inforno room door open or closed?

    Not sure if it's initiative time or what but I will shoot the one on the floor and stay behind the barricade for cover.

    Sonya, since she was uninjured, would have been two squares to the south of Thia's location, helping clear a path. When there is a sign of trouble (e.g. Thia's warning), Sonya will equip her Shield and one of her two hand axes.

    What do Kaddim and Sonya do? Thia says leave the door open and Candelos says to close the door.

    Thia shoots the guy on the ground 18 vs AC miss

    He turns toward you and makes an obscene jesture (free action), stands and moves toward the door.
    The SE door swings open and there are two archers with crossbows standing in the doorway (one kneeling and one standing) pointing at Thia.

    ...what do I do? Well that depends on where I am.
    If I am in position (two squares south of Thia) to throw my hand axe at the wounded human, I will do so. If I'm not in position to take a shot, then I'll jump over the barricade near where Thia is (less stuff).
    I think we should leave the fire room door open, but I guess that's up to who ever is closest to the door.

    Kaddim will say in a loud voice, loud enough for the attackers to hear, "Let him go, They are only protecting their territory.".

    Maybe we can get a few allies out of this if we can open the lines of communication. Then I'll duck for cover to avoid the archers.

    Okay, just like in the old western gun fights, if Sonya is in position to get a shot (errr throw), we'll give the opponents the first move. If they shoot at me, I'll throw. I'll say as a free action "Shoot at me and my axe finds your friend's back."

    The archers at the door don't shoot, they look to be providing cover for their wounded comrade.

    The wounded fighter makes his way to the SE door and into the hallway out of sight. The archers fall back and the door closes.

    All is quiet again...

    After 5 minutes everyone has regained any used encounter powers.

    Sonya will say, to no one specifically:
    "Okay, here are some of our choices, now that we're rested, we can move east down the hall that the human just went down and either; seek and destroy, or attempt to negotiate and or gather information. I suppose we could attempt to pass through the fire room, but I suspect that it leads to the same area where the human retreated to.
    Our other option would be to go back the way we came and explore one of the other passages, one being the one the Ettin fled down. I slightly favor making contact with the humans and seeing if we can confirm why they attacked us and what they can tell us about this area, if there's anything we can do for them and if they want to ally with us in exchange. Perhaps there's some really, really tough evil monster nearby that we can join forces against..."

We are open to considering any discussions which may prove mutually beneficial, but you understand that we would like to know your party's intent prior to any talks."

    Sonya will wait for a reply, or an interjection from one of the other party members...

    After about a minute you hear a knock on the east door. Opening the door you see a Dragonborn in very nice chain armor with two humans slightly behind him. "Come in, let us discuss this situation we find ourselves in."

    Sonya will examine the tactical situation of the room Vren is in but have her weapons put away. After carefully looking around, Sonya will say "I am Captain Sonya Morecut, this is Candelos, Kaddim, Miri, Thia and Quinn. Better to talk to you than cross blades but there are those among us who find it very hard to resist a good fight. Commander Vren, would you care to begin?"

    My men and I have been stuck in this accuresed place for what seems like a year, though it is hard to tell with no sun and the other oddities of this place.

    We've cleared a good portion of this eastern reagion, but have had a hard time with the lizardmen. It's good to see they've finally met their match.

    I have a proposition for you... You help me with a couple of problems and we'll make sure you have a safe place to rest.

    What do you say...


    Note: Quinn using streatwise remember hearing of a dragonborn named Vren on the ship ride from Abby Island. He is said to be a powerful warlord mercenary that escaped from a high security prision on the island about a week ago.

    The party also notes that the men next to Vren are dressed in similar armor/colors as the those the party met before entering the pyramid.

    Note: next extended rest, post that you give Miri gold & for which item & she'll craft it for you. It takes 1 hour each, so I don't know how many I can do in a rest, but might as well get started if you have the gold for something you want.

    Note: If we agree to discuss their problems over a meal they prepare for us, I'll probably have an hour while that's getting ready to enchant 1 item if someone gives me the gold for residuum needed.     Vren gives Quinn a hard stare. You don't have to trust me, but if want the protection I can offer, then you'll help when I ask.

    Vren to Miri: This place seems to be magical in that we haven't had to eat or sleep since we've gotten here. The only time we need to rest is after physical exersion, but even then we don't have to sleep.

    As far as what you can do for me...

    My lieutenant, Ferrance, has gone mad and began attack and killing a few of my men while I was off killing the lizardman chieftain. My men managed to lock him in one of the rooms, but I don't have men to spare to kill him. If you kill him for me, you can have the items I know he has on his person. The rest of the stuff in the room belongs to me.

    There is one other thing... There's one room in our territory that we haven't been able to enter. It's magically locked and we have no mage. Perhaps your mage can unlock it.

    Sonya will say in Elvish:
    "I think we should strongly consider Commander Vren's offer..."
    ...and then Sonya will say in Westron:
    "We will consider your offer Commander Vren, if you will give us a moment..."
    If Commander Vren lets us discuss the matter quietly, then Sonya will tell the party that we should as Vren what else is in the room and to describe Ferrance's strengths and weaknesses so that we can attack with some sort of plan to take advantage of any weaknesses Ferrance might have.

    I will only say this if we get some alone time, "Lets agree with this for now but in the end I don't think we need them and so I rather we do whats needed to gain some trust and intel then kill them all." I will also remind the others that this Vren is a escaped prisoner. Again this is only if we get some alone time as a group.

    When we are at least several rooms away from Vren and the others so we can speak without being heard I will say the following.

    Ferrance might not be his Lt. at all. He could be from the original group of adventurers that Vren got the armor from. If Vren wants him dead so bad, it seems to me that we might want him alive.

    Vren to Miri:
    Ferrence is the only one of my men to go mad. He killed four of my guards, then two more ran into a room where we keep a chest with our money. Ferrence followed them and killed them. A remaining guard was able to close/lock the door and barricade the it. I know Ferrence has a magic sword and boots, I don't know what they do though.

    True, it could be more than a single room... The door is in the middle of my area and I'd like to clear that area, best not to leave and enemy in your mists if you can help it. If it's a way out then great, we'll all be free of this place.

    Miri will work on Sonya's handaxe, then Candelos' cloak, then Thia's boots. How long are we going to decide what we're doing? Enchanting an item takes 1 hour each. I'll assume at least the first one gets done.
    Miri votes to track down the Ettin, explore a little, then come back & take care of Ferrence (or whatever we decide to do there...)

    Note: Item creation here is a bit different than normal. After each extended rest someone with the Enchant Item ritual can create three items (no additional time needed).

    Nathan to Miri:
    Vren is busy at the moment... Ferrence has been trapped for quite a while, he'll be at full strength.
    We were saving the gold for when we escaped this place. Lets just say we haven't had many opportunities for negotiations.

    Even better then, next extended rest Miri will craft all 3 items.
