Nice! I have been focusing only on the barbarian so far.

I have one of each class.

Alright, after 1:50 min on hold with tech support, I finally found out someone set up a dummy acct using my email? Anyway, they fixed it so I can create a new login. Half an hour later, it's still at 28% complete, but my battletag will be: Malechui#1394

I'll check back in a couple hours & possibly see you guys online. Do they not have the Necromancer anymore?

Alright, this free version SUCKS!! I've installed it 2x now & once it let me play for a little while, but it keeps turning off my computer after a couple minutes.

Except for the bugs, it's kinda fun. All the old favorites, Tristam, Decard Cain, etc., but I never know when my computer will turn off while playing (except that it's usually very quick).

Is there a particular place that's cheaper to buy it? I assume the paid version doesn't turn off your computer while you're playing...

Lots of people are seeing the problem with the free and retail versions. It seems to be a problem the way the game uses the video resources and overheats things.

You mean the same thing will happen if I buy the game? That sucks. After geting my butt kicked 2x, I finally stocked way up on healing & beat the Skeleton King, so now there's no more quests unless & spend some $$. (Level 10 Monk)

Brad, don't you have the same computer as Mick? I don't think he has that problem.
Maybe you can turn down the graphics so its not using so much of your system resources.

He may need updated video card drives.

I update video card drivers laste year when Battlefield 3 came out.
I haven't had any problems. I bought a retail copy from Frys.

A few questions...

Do you guys mostly play solo?
In groups are there any level restrictions?
Do you have to create new characters for multiplayer?

You can use any PC in multiplayer. No level restrictions but just like DnD if you add a high level PC the monsters will get tougher. They hit harder, get more hits and have better AC, I think. Just hop into a game with us. I tend not to hop into other's solo games because of the monster boosts, but I don't mind people jumping in to mine.

Okay, I bought the game now. (Thanks Ross!) I have a 28th level Monk & a 12th level Wizard. What's the secret to beating Balial? He's killed me a few times & I haven't come close to beating him...

I haven't done any friend invites since I never knew when the game would crash but that doesn't seeem to happen as often now. I'll start accepting friend requests.

Balial is one of the toughest since you have very little area to run too.

I went the route of trying to out last him.
Beside finding items with dex for damage, look for items with vitality to boost hits.
Get a weapon that give you hits for every time you hit an enemy.
Get some items with resistance. Resistance all are tough to find, so look for resistance physical and poison.
Get items with regenerate.
There's a mantra that gives you good regen for a short period of time.

What's your battlenet tag?

Sure are a lot of monks running around...

From what I've read online, most people favor the monk, wizard and demon hunter.
Only one I haven't played is the witch doc.

Belial is tough but doable once you know some general tips.

He has a "tell" when he is about to smack you with his arms. With my barb, the templar built as a healer, and some lifesteal items/skills I am able to keep attacking through those attacks. However there is a point when he raises his arms and tons of "bombs"/green disks start raining down. These follow you around and you need to stop attacking and run to any safe spot ahead of the disks. If more than one explode on you it can be lights out. If you have any damage reduction it is a good idea to save it for this time.

Last time I fought him in nightmare it took me two tries to beat him. The second time I thnk there were three times he used the carpet bomb thing where I had to run around.

I've tried all of them, and have gotten all of them up to at least 30 except the witch doctor, who is by far the weakest class. So far the toughest seems to be the monk with barbarian a close second. Then demon hunter and wizard.

Anyone know how to "redo" levels?

Trying to go back and kill some of the previously defeated bosses again for items/gold.

Can't get past Diablo and spent over 20k on repair/potions and starting to run low.

I can kill him pretty easily the first and second time, but haven't been able to the third...

If you close the game & start it again, the monsters all refresh, though the quests are done.

20k on potions/repairs? You're far higher level than me, I don't think I'm spending 1k. I don't even have 20kgp.

I've exited and came back in a couple of times, no monsters in heaven.

Haven't tried previous Acts.

Currently Lvl 31 Wizard.

Have you tried to start a new game in the main menu?
I think you can pick were you want to start.

Not yet, only noticed that the only waypoints I can currently get to are in heaven and there are no monster spawns (other than Diablo...).

I'll probably try a few more times, then start a new game and see.

Ken,

To "Redo" levels at the main menu on the left side there is a change quest. Once you change the quest it should say Start Game instead of Resume Game. That should be it.

After you are done you can head back to the highest spot you got to in the same way.

Redoing Heaven took about an hour, but made about 25kgp.

Brad popped in just as I was heading for Diablo.

I still can't believe how easy it went with two people. I don't think I really felt threatened throughout the battle. I thought he would have been tougher with two people, but I guess not since he had to split some of his attacks.

you make a lot more money if you play in Nightmare. Make sure you upgrade your equipment from items in the Auction. You should be able to buy good items for less than a couple of thousand per item. Get socketed items when you can. Good gems are cheap to buy. Great gems however, are very expensive.

It was fun. I was surprised too how much easier that went. Diablo killed me about 4-5 times solo, and I beat him with lots of running around until my heals recharged. Together, I never needed to run away. (I sometimes had to run back to him after he picked me up & threw me...)

Easier to buy them from the Auction House. You can get a ton for really cheap. You will need to upgrade your gems as well. It might be cheaper to just buy the gems you want though.

Pages of Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting come from Nightmare mode.
Tomes of Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting come from Hell mode.

Not sure if there is another one above that in Inferno mode but it does follow the pattern. The pages drop with a good frequency in Nightmare so if you aren't needing to go up quickly in the crafting you can get them naturally. If you want it done quickly then the AH is your friend.

Currently I don't pay over 1K for any item. There are too many upgrades in the 1K range that I can buy an upgrade every level or two and keep current. Since I just hit 50 I need to head back in and check for any upgrades. So far it is really only the elemental attacks (poison, fire, lightning, etc) that are killing me. I have a 47% physical reduction in damage but the highest elemental I have is 13%.

Same here. Those exploding bodies that spread in to fire or poison are the only things that drop me, oh and those fricken laser beams. So far in Nightmare none of the Bosses have killed me, but I'm in Act III now so we'll see what happens.

The big arm weirdos that can do a ranged poison grab underneath you suck! The laser beams do too!

I died once to belial but that was because I misclicked and ran into three of the exploding rings at the same time. Other than that I haven't had any problems on the bosses. I am close to the spider queen in act 3 and getting closer to Azmodan.

Yes, this is true up to a certain level of gem.
I stopped train the crafters. I must have 40 page for the gem guy and 80 pages for the blacksmith.

Most good items you can get cheap with a little hunting thru the auction. (under 3K)
I have bought a couple in the 20K range with 18-20 resistance all & +50s ability.

You guys' avatars are tougher than mine. I can minion munch pretty well but often those bosses can take me from full up to 'bloodied', so I can't take 2 in a row. Too big a horde of elites also & my heals don't recharge fast enough.

I just recently got to act I in nm.

...Plus, I still need to update my video cards more 'cuz I've died many times from my screen minimizing on me for no reason and I reopen it just too late. :-(

I am in nightmare currently, almost to Act 4. Still need to beat the spider queen Cydaea and Azmodan.

You guys didn't mention those Mallet-hand Demons... They hit like a hammer!

But yeah, those claw armed things are the toughest of the minions I've come across. But I just started NM level 1.

Does anyone play in Elective Mode?

Don't even know what that is... (So no)

I play elective mode. Makes it much nicer to customize the skills to what I need. I don't use the mouse to click on the skills so I don't drag them off.

Edit:
Elective Mode (Settings -> Game Options) gives you the ability to put any skill from any section in any hotbar slot including your left and right mouse buttons.

If you are using Elective Mode, with a Demon Hunter, a cool power to replace your Left Mouse button with is Evasive Fire.
It actually generates 4 Hatred per shot and hits pretty good. Plus when you fire with it you you tumble away only if a target is close to you. Basically if you just keep firing you will tumble away from the target automatically.
