    The brain turned invisible...

I don't believe anyone in the party has 22 passive perception...

Yup, part of his faulty invisibility, but note that it's also re-becoming visible right before the start of it's turn & needs to recharge to use... This round, the most of the party will need a barely above average perception check to pinpoint (& a minor action).

Blade draws and drinks a potion and has a standard action remaining, can't target the invisible Brain without a spot check or an area attack, I don't think. Magic Missiles might still work?

Yes, regarding my earlier post, that was a repost of my last update, not the current health report.

Telgarth starts his turn prone and bloodied, regains 2 hits from regeneration, grabs his sword, stands, and regains more 8 hits & +2 defenses.

Here's a current health report including the correction on Telgarth after his turn:

    Angel: 23/34 8/13
    Ashe: 8/33 8/13 bloodied
    Blade: 25/30 6/11
    Ember: 8/30 6/11 bloodied
    Telgarth: 20/34 7/12

I'm going to assume Blade's standard will be to Executioner's Noose the only thing he can target, the Gaurdian 2 S of Angel, and 10+6=16 v fort, exactly hit. The Gaurdian falls and there's just the invisible floating Brain in a Jar left to face. Angel's turn, then Ember, then Brain...

Note: Ember & Angel can hear one of the young girls coming up from the S rooms mumbling to herself over and over, "Vampires don't really exist... Magic isn't real.... This isn't really happening..." She seems to be in shock, and bleeding.

    Angel's turn:

    Minor: pull out a shuriken

Move: use Lion's Den movement and shift 1NE

Standard: ready an action to throw shuriken at the brain when it appears.

    Defenses should be: (22/18/18/18)

Brain shift E 1 and 4+7=11 v will doesn't posess Ashe's mind, and turns invisible again (stealth DC22 to pinpoint).

standard: scorching blast on the space 1E of the spot the brain turn invisible.

Burst doesn't take -5 penalty for invisibility, right? If so, Ember 10+6=16 v ref hit for 15 fire.

Angel then throws a shiriken and 17+8=25 hits for 6 more damage. The Brain is very bloodied.

The brain moves S, SW, then W to end directly SE of Ashe. It then uses it's Mindstab, close burst 3, getting everyone except Ember... v Angel 23 v will hit, v Telgarth 9 v will miss, v Ashe 16 miss, v Blade 21 v will hit. Angel & Blade take 10 psychic damage. Angel and Blade are now bloodied. At the end of it's turn it turns invisible once more (this time DC 17 to pinpoint).

Ashe, Blade, Telgarth, Ember, then Angel (if it gets that far...) The brain, last you saw it, looked like it's jar is on it's last legs...

    Casino office level - Page 5 Ritual11

The hysterical woman starts regaining her composure a little bit but is still a little out of control and yells at you all, "How can you kids be so calm about all this? You're fighting a floating brain in a jar with magic! That's not possible! I'm a 5th grade science teacher and I know physics..."

Not even magic invisibility is a defense against the Prophesied Ones, as Ashe 8+6=14 exactly hit and the brain in a jar falls lifeless to the ground.

    Who addresses the woman?

Ashe & Blade immediately find the circuit breaker wired to a touchpad on the shelf the brain was on that turns on the lights.

In the N room the party finds a computer with lots of files on "La Magra", a Vampire God that none of you have heard of. In the SE room, you find lots of old and ancient tombs that include a spellbook of 1st through 6th level spells, and also 5 instructions for magic rituals (1st through 6th level... exact magic kind of unclear i.e. Player's choice). In the SW room, the party finds notes of a routed Toknosfar stronghold and you notice Vala's name listed as one of the KIA. You also find in this room marked as coming from that stronghold:

    Blurred Strike Ki Focus +2
    Sash of Ensnarement
    Cloak of Distortion +1
Ruin Gaurdian Staff +2 (cane sized)
    Astral Symbol of Pelor +2

In the large conference room, you find a money counting machine and $4,100 in one's and $29,500 in fives. No larger bills, they must have been counted & moved already...

Assuming everone uses surges up to what's not wasted,

    Angel: 29/34 6/13
    Ashe: 32/33 5/13
    Blade: 29/30 4/11
    Ember: 29/30 3/11
    Telgarth: 28/34 6/12

Don't know if Angel & Telgarth want to use one more surge or not. The five survivors are in shock as you practically regenerate your wounds before their eyes, almost like the Vampires do...

The party also finds a total of 7 dead bodies with lots of neck wounds. All 12 (5 survivors + 7 bodies) look like they were casino patrons, as opposed to the others that were staff. What do you say/do with the survivors? What does everyone do next?

"Look lady I didn't really want to believe either but after these things killed my family I had to face facts. Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. Even if you don't believe and they kill you then you are still dead."

Ashe will don the cloak of distortion. "Maybe this will keep some of them off me. I really need to get better about not getting hit."

"The five of you need to get out of here. We have some people outside that can help you. Since we did save you can you do something for me? Can you grab these books and get them to those guys? They might contain some valuable information that we shouldn't lose and maybe just maybe there will be something in there that helps us defeat them."

OK after doing some math we have 10,000 bills to deal with (5,900 fives and 4,100 ones). Each bill weighs 1 gram and 454 grams = 1 pound and 10,000 grams = 22.04 pounds. The fives weigh 12 pounds or so. If we bag up 10 pounds worth of fives I can store it in my glove. The other 4800 bills will need to be put in a backpack or something.

Do any of the ones that were bitten look like they might turn into vampires? How does that work? Do we need to stake the dead just to be certain?

The latter's up to you guys... You all know from your day to few days of training with Giles that in order for a Vampire to 'sire' another, they must feed (check), kill victim (check), and the victim must have fed off of the Vampire (no way to be sure). Giles tells you that typically, Vampires are very picky about who they sire though. This coven seems to not be playing by the old rules though...

Angel will claim the Ki Focus and use one more surge.

Angel will ask the women if they saw how the others died and if any of them (the dead) started turning into monsters as well. He'll also ask Blade to check them out, he seems to be able to spot vampire better than the rest of us.

You can't tell anything insightful from a dead body. If you're Undead and/or trained in Insight, and you make an insight check DC20, you can distinguish a disguised Vamp from the living. You can also tell young or old (i.e., recently undead or long ago sired).

Blade uses a minor action and 15+5=20 exact success and is sure none of the 5 survivors are Vamps.

I will use a surge to get to 28.

I will get a bag or improvise a backpack with a table cloth - I am more than willing to carry what's left of the cash.

3/5 survivors are women and most everyone gets a little uncomfortable talking about feeding, you get the feeling they're embarassed to recall the feelings of bloodlust. You can tell it was a powerful feeling. A couple of them do admit to feeding though. They all say they were too preoccupied with their own torture & imminent death to know for sure if anyone else fed or not.

As far as turning into monsters, right at midnight when the car giveaway was supposed to begin is when it started. A girl was promised a dinner with the mayor to draw the name of the 1st winner. The mayor then drove the car back out the main entrance, the main entrance then disappeared, then the owner turned into a monster and started biting the drawing girl's neck!

Right then all the staff, which seemed to be everywhere, turned into monsters and started attacking the guests. About 2 dozen of us were quickly rounded up & brought up here, no idea what happened to the rest...

While out of earshot of the survivors, Ashe will mention that if they fed off the vampires and the vampires fed off them that is exactly what Giles said needed to happen for new vampires to be created. I am not sure its a good idea to herd the survivors/soon to be vampires down to our allies who are not vampire slayers.

Sounds like everyone wants to divy up & carry seperately 1/5 of the cash. Since Angel mentioned it, you remember that there is the severed finger traps that would have gone off if any living creature approached with 15' without disarming and saying the password. (theivery & religion check) Ember & Blade easily escort them through both traps on the stairs.

In the parking lot, Vala has hotwired one of the 20 or so nice cars (with dark tinted windows) in the parking lot. Everyone else is at the motel room about 3 miles down the highway. She agrees to ferry these people to the motel, but she mentions how Giles has already booked a few rooms and he's very short on cash... She also reminds everyone to let her know about any magic treasure finds or rumors...

I think there was Giles, the sleeping Slayer, half dozen wannabes, a dozen & half recued serving girls & a few dealers (all in undies), and now these 5, all very wounded with neck bites. Selena, the vegan Vampiress, and Vala, the Toknosfar Halfling both refuse to stay at the hotel with the walking wounded. Vala hotwired a car earlier (with dark tinted windows) for Selena and she drove off.

Do you guys do, say anything else before heading up? What order do you guys want up the stairs?

We may want to leave any burdensom items with Vala or Selena.

Angel will leave his share of the cash with Selena. Selena, keep it safe and we can party later. Wink

Angel will show Vala the magical Ki Focus he just acquired.

What order works for you guys? I think we had Blade and Angel in the lead, then Telgarth, Ember, then Ashe.

Keeping the ranged strikers in back is probably best.

Oh, Angel will ask Selena to give Giles $500 to help with expenses (room/clothes/food) for the wounded.

In that case Vala makes a call on her cell and Selena shows up around 15 mins later, glad to help Angel keep his $6k+ safe and wait for him with a car.

"Nice! Next time there's magic to find, I'm coming with you and getting my fair share..." Angel can clearly see she recognizes your new item, though she quickly hides it fairly well.

Selena gives the cash to Vala. She also explains to Angel that while unlike most Vampires she feels compassion for Humanoids, (so therefore chooses not to hunt people), she also feels the bloodlust of the Undead so doesn't want to be anywhere near smelling distance of that many injured people.

Ashe will give $500 to the group for motel fare and other necessities as well. Ashe will also show Vala the cloak he is wearing and tell her of the note and raid on the Toknosfar hideout.

Ashe will also call Giles privately and tell him about the 5 wounded that *might* be turning into vampires. Please give away nothing and hide as much about us and you as possible. He will include Vala in that confidence as well and have her keep an eye out. He will make sure she has stakes just in case.

After hearing the situation, Giles will remind Ashe that it's the 7 dead bodies that's likely to spawn (sometime in the next night or few). The 3 requirements to 'sire' a Vamp are: feed off victim, kill victim, let victim feed off you. The 5 live survivors were never killed so are alright. The others, the bodies, he recomends decapitation, stake through the heart, set on fire, etc.

Vala mentions that she was here investigating what happened to her friends that she hasn't heard from in a few days and that she recognizes some of the items you now carry.

Forgot about the having to be dead part. OK decap the dead bodies.

Sorry to hear that Vala, I will make sure they don't come back as our enemies. I figured as much when I saw the note. I will try to use them to the best of my abilities.

Ashe starts chopping the heads off of corpses, something that's obviously new to all of you, and Vala has $1,500 for Giles to buy clothes, food, bandages, & pay for the rooms. It is around 4:30am, so he'd need to find a 24 hour mart or wait until morning.

Does anyone do anything with the computer or the money counting machine?

I'll leave the decaps to Ashe.

I will check the counting machine for any more money inside of it, also see if it has a log or something that keeps track of how much money has gone through it, and when.

Check the computer if I'm able to get into it and browse around and look for anything suspicious.

I think we should check on what's going on upstairs. Wouldn't want them to finish whatever ritual they're performing if we can stop it.

Ember will ask Vala to take her share of the cash back to the hotel and donate $500 Giles funds for supplies.

I'll show Vala my new staff.

I'll say "let pull the hard drive and head upstairs."

Agreed, we need to get going. Mr. Mui and company are going to be doing something really soon as it was supposed to go down near dawn.

Vala is now bringing $2k in small bills to Giles with the computer hard drive & five survivors crammed in her hotwired car. Good thing the windows are dark tinted, cuz not everyone's wearing a seat belt.

Selena is now in the parking lot in another hotwired dark windowed car waiting for you guys.

The money counting machine is/can do whatever a top of the line one does, but has no more money in it. I just didn't know if a PC would want it or not...

    Go up?

    Casino office level - Page 5 Ritual12

The 2 double doors where you're at close loosely enough to peer through. Ember rolls a 6+11+3*=20 religion check and recognizes enough of what's going on to know destroying the glass statue will disrupt the ritual. Letting the ritual happen might release a Vampire God's avatar if it works. *GM bonus, Ember "just so happens" to remember key info from her quick skimming of the computer downstairs.

I didn't place all the tokens, but there are 3 guests shackled and prone to each small stool on the first & second levels (difficult terrain next to the small stools). About 1/3 are alive, the other 2/3 dead. Around 100 total.

This round, Blade & Ember rolled a '17' & '16' total respectively for their insight rolls, so don't know if they're Vamps or how old. There are 2 groups of 9 (suspected) Vamps in the audience, plus Sam, Mercury, and another woman on the stage, around a spun glass life size image of a large winged Vampire. The glass statue is encased in a red glowing ball of magic and the statue appears to be made of a bunch of thin glass straws, because they're filling with Mercury's blood.

Mercury (NE of sphere) is now 1/2 topless and the topless half has her arm reaching within the red magic sphere and her wrist is offered to the statue's sharpened glass fangs. Her regeneration is keeping up with her bleeding, but it's dripping into and filling up the glass "La Magra" statue. The girl to the statue's SE is also 1/2 topless, kneeling, and with her topless half arm reaching through the magic and grabbing the statue's phallus.

Mr. Mui is 1/2 on the higher level stage area, and half standing on top of the red magic energy surrounding the roughly 2/3 filled with blood glass statue. His booted feet seem to find the energy solid.

The area between the stage area and the audience tiers is a sea of blood, you think at least an inch thick.

So far you do. Right now everyone has free actions unless someone opens a door or does something particularly loud. There is light chanting inside. You all know that probably all of them are aware of your presence, but they are being unnervingly callous about that fact.
