Background
Carmelia Cross grew up in the 1930s, facing horrors no child should. One night, monsters tore through her quiet town, killing her parents and leaving her with a lifelong hatred for the supernatural. Taken in by her grandmother, a rootworker steeped in old traditions, Carmelia learned the lore of spirits, wards, and monster lore. By 16, she’d left home, becoming a skilled hunter and traveling across the country to seek out and destroy creatures that preyed on the innocent.

For nearly a decade, Carmelia walked alone, surviving by her wits and the arsenal she carried in her well-worn leather bag. She used fake names for safety, each alias an homage to the powerful Black women she admired, like Dorothy Dandridge and Bessie Coleman. In her most dangerous mission, she infiltrated a sinister cult bent on summoning an ancient god. Posing as a devoted acolyte, she thwarted the summoning ritual from within, escaping without the cult ever discovering her true identity.

By age 25, she was tired of solitary battles and agreed to join the Sovereign, a covert government agency investigating supernatural threats. Though not a team player by nature, Carmelia found value in the Sovereign’s resources and rare artifacts. Now, she fights both monsters and bureaucracy, her heart hardened by loss but still driven by a fierce commitment to protect the innocent from the creatures that robbed her of her family.

Description
Carmelia is a striking figure with thick, curly locks and sharp brown eyes that seem to always be calculating her next move. Her wardrobe choices are as bold as her personality, featuring a brown leather jacket with teal lining, an orange shirt emblazoned with a paw print, and green pants accented with white stripes. She tops off her look with distinctive brown boots with buttons, giving her a rugged yet stylish edge.
