Updated for the 1 June 2019 adventure where both teams were able to get off the bee planet and get back to earth.

Team Alpha moves up to 18th Level

All in all I think the adventure went well, though a couple of the encounters took a lot longer than I thought they would.


Encounter #1 was level 22, but the party successfully broke it into two separate encounters.
1A 10 Storm Bats level 15 Skirmishers (encounter level 18)
1B 10 Adult Storm Beetles level 15 Brute, 10 Young Storm Beetles level 1 Brute (encounter level 18.5)

Once the party found out how deadly the adult Storm Beetles were, they quickly came up with a plan that took them out without risk to party members.


Encounter #2 (Save the Queen) was level 20
4 Beez Beasts (level 15 Brute)
3 Beez Soldiers (level 15 Soldier)
1 Beez Leader (level 15 Leader)
1 Mind Flayer (level 17 Controller)

This was a particularly long battle, mostly due to the Beez Leader and the Mind Flayer both having interrupts to negate damage to the Mind Flayer. I didn't include the Queen above since she was mostly a non combatant, though she had over 1k hp that the Mind Flayer could use as a thrall to soak up damage.

Party makeup both helped and hindered.
The escape/defensive abilities really helped to avoid a TPK, but the lack of single target direct damage  made the encounters last longer.

Had a great time, will work on the next session to save Beta Team...

Note:
The party has two Stun grenades left (Sonya currently has both)
Ranged: Area Burst 1 within 10
+18 vs Fort
No damage, Stunned (save ends)


The closest item comparable I could find is a Jolt Flask:



You could easily get 4k each for the grenades if you want to sell them.

Interesting info on the encounters... yes, agree with your analysis. Party make up was far less than optimal.

Didn't we have a monk and a ranger/archer. Those are strikers that fit those positions?
Having 3 controller types in tight quarters didn't help.

Monks are area strikers, they do sub-par "Striker" damage, but make up for it by hitting multiple opponents.

In the Bat battle and against the Mind Flayer, almost every opponent was damaged/bloodied before even one of them were killed. (The party spread the damage around instead of taking enemies off the board).

...on the other hand, even though we were not reducing the number of enemy attacks each round, we were probably giving more TOTAL damage each round as the area effect types were hitting many bad guys with each attack... Maybe with a bunch of Defender/ Striker types, the enemy attacks might have gone like: 9 - 8 - 7 - 5 - 4 - 4 (encounter and APs used) - 3 - 2 where as our battle might have gone: 10-10-10-10-3-1... you get the idea...
