Post by Dwarmaj Tue Apr 27, 2010 10:52 pm

The party completes their much needed rest and begins to investigate the chain noises to the south.

Before you enter the corridor leading south an image of Karavakos appears.

"Not all of us appear as we do. One of us has become an abomination. Kill us three times and win your freedom!" Hahahaha!

The image disappears, followed by the slwly fading echo of Karavakos's mocking laughter.

    Is this order ok?

The party moves on and comes to a door.

Listening at the door Candelos hears occasional chain rattling and a strange poping noise. The popping noise sounds kind of like sparks.

Thia is easily able to unlock the doors and does not see any traps.

    Opening the door reveals:
Howling winds sweep past as you open the door to this chamber. Before you, a rushing vortex of energy whirls around the center of the room. Within the vortex you can barely see the form of a large humanoid figure. The figure struggles in place, as if trapped at the center of this strange storm.

The humanoid figure looks vaguely like Karavakos, but it has gray-blue skin, oversized, bulging head, a humanoid upper torso, and a lower body that ends in several long, ropey tentacles. In place of arms, it has two long tentacles that end in barbs. Around it's neck you can see a shiney key...

I've rolled initiative for the party:
Candelos, Thia, Sonya, Kaddim, then Miri

    Candelos' turn...

    Note:
There is a statue at each corner of the energy vortex. The statue looks like one of the robed figures you previously fought. The statues do not take up the whole square so you could move through their square, but they will slow you down.

    Candelos' turn:
Move: Candelos moves into the room and immediately notices that it is very difficult to move around. The energy of the vortex seems to slow your movement.

Note: the area outside of the vortex is considered difficult terrain. If/when a PC gets into the vortex or to the inner section I'll let you know how movement is handled...

Candelos is only able to move two squares. 1SE, then 1E.

Standard: Candelos throws his shield at the abomination in the center of the room. The shield travels into the vortex and then returns to Candelos' hand.

    Note:
The vortex blocks line of effect, but not line of sight. So attacks cannot be made from outside of the vortex inside.

After Candelos' takes his turn he can see the abomination struggle to break the chains with no success.

Not being able to shoot in there from out here is going to be tough.

Thia will move to the doorway and do a perception check to see if the vortex is caused by the statues as they seem to be connected. No attack action.

    Thia notices:

    1. That the energies from the vortex seem to flow around the statues but doesn't know if they are the source or not.
    2. The squares two squares away from the vortex seem to be mildly affected by the vortex.

    It's hard to tell.

It's like looking from a lightly snowing area through a heavily snowing area and trying to see how much snow if falling past the heavy section. Lots of interferrance.

5 squares to get through the vortex into the inner area.
Kaddim is 2 squares from the vortex
The vortex is 2 squares wide
One more square to get past the vortex.

Note: Kaddim also sees (25 passive Arcana check) small translucent "bubbles" floating around the room. The bubbles seem to move through the room as well as float through the ceiling, walls, and floors.

I assume the abomination didn't look affected since it didn't get pulled around.

Correct, only the vortex and two squares on either side. The 4x4 in the center is not affected by the vortex.

Kaddim also notices that the 4x4 area in the center of the room doesn't have the floating "bubbles"...

...does the vortex appear to be a creature we can swing at and do damage to??

No, the vortex is not a creature. But...
Thia perceives (DC23 perception check) that when the vortex sped up the pillars next to the abomination seemed to glow.

The pillars look to be made of stone (15' tall, 5' wide). The material looks similar to the walls of the pyramid.

Jesus 17 HP worth of damage. Looks like I need to get next to the abomination or we need to get him out of this area. That vortex will drain my HP so fast.

I'm bet the Tentacle Flurry (Close Burst 3) is a at-will power.

It will just pushing us into the vortex to be damaged while it stay safe in the center.

Yeah, I agree with Mick, the creature will just keep pushing us into the Vortex.
For my turn, I'll do a move and a move to end up next to the NW Pillar and as far east as I can get with my move and a move.
    Done...

    Done...

    Sonya's turn:
Sonya uses a move and a move and ends up NE of the NW pillar

After Sonya's turn... the abomination takes a second standard action...
    Abomination:
Standard: Tentacle Lash on Sonya 33 vs Ac hits for 10hp of damage. Sonya slides 2 squares north into the vortex.

    Following the chains... Playe289

    Kaddim's turn, then Miri

Forgot he was marked.... He still hit Sonya with 33-2 vs Ac. I'm not sure if Candelos can use his mark if he doesn't have LOE.

A similar situation came up before and I ruled that you can't use your mark if you don't have LOE and LOS. Thoughts...

    Kaddim's turn, then Miri

No, you don't see multiple heads, but his is why I asked the question on the rules board. Smile

Do I have an action point? If so I want to use Lightning Lure on it again...oh wait, can we shoot through the hazy stuff?

Everyone currently has 1 action point.

The vortex blocks LOE both ways. You can shoot a target inside the vortex if you're inside, but you can't shot from outside in or inside the vortex out.
