Unopened Door

The party updates Ferrence and Nathan on their exploits then heads off to the unopened room in the human area.

Thia is unable to pick the lock, but Miri casts Knock (subtract resources) and the door unlocks.

Current PC status is:

Sonya 61/61hp 5/9 surges
Thia 60/60hp 6/7 surges
Miri 44/54p 9/9 surges
Quinn 58/73hp 7/11 surges
Candelos 59/72hp 11/14 surges

If you'd like your PC to be in a different position, let me know. It's hard to see, but Kaddim and Quinn are in front of the door.

Actually, Miri should be at 44/54 8/9 surges, since 'Knock' costs 35gp +1 healing surge to cast. (& 10 minutes, but that's inconsequential).

PC positions look good, but I'd suggest Sonya move 1 square NW, so she can use the Gaurdian Shield to keep Candelos from Frenzying before we're ready. Other than that, I say open the door! A wizard would be eager to find a library! :-)

Quinn opens the door and sees the following:

There's a palpable air of divine power in this room, mixed with angry menace. A woman kneels before a plain altar adorned with candles, but she wheels in surprise as the door opens, her eyes wide with fear.


Note to Candelos:

My name is Danna and I need your help.

I've been trapped in this place for a long time and the magic of this room prevents me from escaping. I need your help, but don't want you to be trapped like me.

If rounds are passing, Sonya will be making active perception checks.

I don't know, I'm not skilled in many things. Perhaps someone skilled in arcana or traps could come in and take a look. Since you were able to open the door, I just know you can help. I am unable to move past the pews to the south.

Rounds are always passing... But, there are no advasaries at the moment.

Can Thia see anything from where she is at?

Ask her how she was trapped in there and the circumstances that led to it.

When I try to cross where the pews are I get shocked. After a few times I simply stopped.

Also, does she look sturdy? In other words can I tell if she's minion type or is at least a 1st level character with some decent hit points? I'll use my goggles on her as well.

Danna moves around the pews and heads south, nothing happens. You may be right, I'm free.

When Danna gets within 10' of the door, the doors slam shut (forcefully, Kaddim and Quinn figure that anyone standing in the doorway would have taken some damage).

The party hears muffled screems coming from inside...

Try opening the door again.

"Sure"? No, I said 'may'. I'm sure we'll do everything we can.

Miri will recast 'Knock', but we'll run into the same problem again I think. If, during the 10 minutes to cast, someone decides to break down the door, I think that'll be a better idea to free Danna.

While Miri recasts Knock, Kaddim and Quinn attempt to break down the door unsuccessfully. Similar to the mirrors in the Mirrored Hallway, the door repairs itself each round.

Miri eventually casts Knock and Quinn opens the door again. Danna is back near the alter in the northern part of the room.

Maybe if you come in you can disable whatever ward is in place from this side.

I think I can get her out as long as I can see her and she can see me. I'll need to attack her with one of my powers, and preferably miss her, to mark here. Then she'll need a weapon to throw at someone else that will activate my teleport power which would bring her adjacent to me.

Even with a passive arcana check you note that the door/doorway is magical. Upon further inspection you feel that line of effect does not extend into the room.

We mind as well all go in. If that's not line of sight it's probably another plane or something. So we might be splitting up if only some go in.

...nope, can't think of anything, are there any other visible doors, vents, openings, etc. we can see, maybe there's another way in. Which means there's another possible way out.

No attack as far as you can tell. She does seem very happy the party has come to her aid.

Miri: "The door is the first thing we should check I'd say. We can't even be sure yet that everyone is affected by it. Much easier to disarm or bypass a trap if we know what the trap is. What kind of energy attacked you and from where/how?"

Sonya will first examine the walls, very carefully, taking her time. Looking for panels and such. Then she will examine the doorway(s) and finally the altar.

Candelos (+11) and Sonya (+3) are slowly checking the walls.

Note: I'm assuming they're each using a standard action to perform a Perception check at each 5' section of the wall.


While they're doing that:
I moved Thia into the center of the room. Chris, let me know if you want to be somewhere else.

Danna moves to one of the pews and askes Kaddim to join her.

Miri is still debating checking the doors so I left her there with Quinn.

Thia doesn't want to be quite so close to Danna and doesn't trust her sudden love of Kaddim. Something is going on there.

She will scan for traps, magical or otherwise.

yep, sounds good to me, have the most perceptive person check and people who are not quite as perceptive assist.
