WAR! - After the Missions

1 WAR! - After the Missions on Sun Mar 13, 2011 10:05 am

Hmmm...I only have three more missions left in WAR!. I have a couple ideas for other series I want to run but I am liking this one. After the 10th Level concluding mission, would people want me to take some time and write a few more Paragon missions for WAR!, maybe up to 15th, or would people like me to start a new series (at 11th Level where you can bring in new characters or use the WAR! characters, player's option)? I guess a third option is to start a new series at some level other than 11th.

I would like to continue using Cedarick into Paragon, but I don't care if it's in the War Campaign or something else.

Will probably switch to a new PC at some point.

I initially switched from a Druid to a Defender/Striker because the party was mostly strikers when War started and didn't have a defender.

Now with two full defenders I think the defender role is covered and with too many defenders we keep overwriting each others marks.

If we're going to continue with the same PCs into paragon, then I'd like to switch. If we're going to end War in a few sessions and then have a new group of PCs get together, I'll stick with Kara until War completes.

I would enjoy continuing to play Hunter. I don't think it matters to me whether it's in an extended civil war campaign or a new one.

Ditto Hayden.

Hmmm...okay then. Unless someone objects, after WAR!, I think I'll continue the series. There will be a realignment after the last adventure, so to speak, where new PC's may come into the series easily.

I'll start story boarding Levels 11 to 15 then, primarily with the current WAR! characters in mind.

As an FYI: I'm okay with our characters migrating to a whole different area of the world as well. I just want to play my particular PC, regardless of setting.

Does this mean you'd prefer us not to switch until then?

Military units constantly add/remove team members. Should be fairly easy for PCs to come up with stories as to why a PC left (dies, injured, promoted, transfered...).

Without giving too much away, after the 10th Level WAR! adventure, all I'm saying is that there's already a built in device in the storyline that will make it so anyone who wants to switch to a new PC at that time can do so without having to "make up" a story as to what happened to the old PC.

If a player wanted to switch to the new PC in WAR! right now, hey, that's okay with me too. I will make one put, if I'm familiar with your PC and know thier background and capabilities, I'll make allowances for such when I pen the adventures. i.e. Hunter recognized the assasin during the assasination attempt, there's been a couple skill challenge possibilities for a PC with good stealth (Hayden), etc.

Hey, if for some reason, you don't like your current PC, by all means, make a replacement. I'd kinda want you to have a PC you like to play...

Okay, I'll give you all a little more information now so that you can better think about your potential Paragon path. After WAR!, I've decided, that at least for a few adventures, I'm going to continue the series. In the post war state, while there may not be open warfare between large armies of armed, uniformed combatants, there will still be much unrest and conflict as various factions jocky for power and position in the new world order (hey, did I just say that?). With the massive war debt, and the banking system in chaos, the financial system will be in ruins and the people will be desparate. Leaders will arise, backed by small teams of covert agents who will be the operative arms of those seeking to bring order and lasting peace to the land.

The former and present members of SF Black shall be those agents. Highly trained and skilled assets with authorization to use lethal force in the execution of thier missions. You will operate covertly, being the precision dagger strike to any that would seek to continue feeding corruption and personal gain at the cost of the people at large.

On a related point, do others think that it would be acceptable if advancement slowed to once every other adventure? Discuss...

Also, after the next adventure, if anyone wanted to start a brand new character, or retrain (extensively) thier existing character, I'd be okay with that. There would be quite a bit of story, and other benefits to the PCs in the post WAR! adventures if they were a former member of SF Black. Other ideas for the post WAR! advetures? Oh, they'd still mostly be on Grong Island, but there are already a few off island adventures in the works.

That's fine too, but every adventure seems to have worked FAR better than the old system of tracking exp. I do NOT want to go back to that.

...no, I don't think I'll ever go back to tracking exp.

For Heroic - I like advancing one level per adventure.

For Paragon - I think one level every two adventures might be better. It'll give people a chance to get more familiar with their PC. That way they're not constantly getting use to new powers/abilities.

The one downside of advancing slower in our group is that it may be awhile between sessions for a particular DM. Any "learn the PC time" gained by slower advancement will be lost if we only play 1/3 months in a given campaign.

Just my thoughts...

I had that thought also, but as I'm the one that DMs the most, and I have only one campaign to DM (at present anyway), so I'm pretty sure I can make it work (advance only once every other session). There's also times when a player misses an adventure and didn't get to play thier PC at that level. Even those players who play a lot miss an adventure now and then. No one except Ken has made every single one of the WAR! adventures and Ken's played three different PC's in that series now. I think Ibuki, Ross and Brad have all missed one WAR! adventure each.
