    20190118 Recap – Tomb of The Lizard King Part 2- Team A
    Part 2 of a 3 part series and competition between two teams of players.

    Raistlin - Elven Wizard – Arthur
    Kazoo! Halfling Druid/ Rogue – Ross
    Enzo - Githzera Hunter – Mick
    Wii – Female Pixie Sorcerer - Ken
    Nekk – Human Fighter – Kobe
    Walster – Mul Warden - Ibuki


    After interviewing and being accepted by the baron for the task of finding out the fate of the Baron’s men and seeing if there is a greater evil behind the bandits, the team foils an attempt by Mordrin the evil priest as he tries to assassinate the Baron with a flame strike. After capturing the priest and sensing urgency, the group speeds off to Waycombe, fighting their way past parties of lizardmen. Once at Waycombe, the party makes their way to a huge temple within the great swamp. They locate a hidden path up to a marble platform that is guarded by a squad of bandit archers. Although Stephen, the old man who guided the party through the swamp, is killed by the bandits, the party manages to dispatch the bandits without too much difficulty.


    After a short rest, Raistlin and others decipher the words on the back wall, allowing Kazoo to find a passage that Nekk is able to force open a passageway that leads to a hidden stairway. Checking the other engraving, they find a similar secret passage where an angry black dragon emerges. The dragon blasts most of the party with acid but only a single party member is wounded. Walster and Nekk charge toward the dragon, initially with support from the wizard, Enzo and sorcerer. The dragon is quickly dazed after a very serious hit by one of Enzo’s arrows and a couple blows from Nekk and Walster. Suddenly, Raistlin and Enzo are off balanced as three water elementals, one from each pool, emerge and strike at the party’s weaker members. Wii, Raistlin, and Kazoo concentrate on the water elementals, while the two defenders and Enzo combine fire on the dragon, keeping the huge beast off balanced. Walster gets crushed by several claw attacks and Nekk takes full advantage, striking at the dragon’s open flank. Wii, with the help of her owl bear and a well placed strike by Kazoo, blasts the first water elemental into tiny droplets with a blast of powerful sorcerous magic. In a flurry of spells, Wii unleashes two powerful attacks upon the second elemental, critically weakening it, allowing Kazoo! to finish it off with well placed sling stone to the middle of what appears to be its head. Kazoo! then hits the third elemental with a glancing shot as it blasts the cloud of darkness hiding Wii. Raistlin blasts the elemental but takes a powerful bolt of water to the chest in return. Wii, having already expended most of her power, also hits the last elemental but with only minor effect. With extra effort, Raistlin blasts the last elemental with lightning and then force missiles, dissipating it in a spray of mist. Nekk and Walster take turns defending against and striking at the powerful dragon. Enzo, dazes the beast, affording the fighters more time to position themselves. Nekk uses his shield and shoulders the dragon’s left front leg out from under the beast, causing the beast to crash to the ground. As the dragon starts to recover, Walster dazes it again with a blow to the side of the head. Enzo, continues to support his friends with a continual spray of arrows. With all three elementals out of the fight, Raistlin and Wii refocus their spells on the dragon, keeping the beast off balance. The combined might of all six adventurers is just too much for the weakened beast and Raistlin finishes it off with a volley of force missiles. The group finds a huge treasure horde and rests a moment before moving on again.

    The team moves back to the outer chamber and reopens the passage to the stairway that leads into a small room. Kazoo! hears voices which he assumes are bandits in the next room. Enzo reacts first, shifting and firing a volley of arrows toward the enemy wizard, nearly bloodying him. Gormundel the Red, recovers quickly, throws up a defensive force shield to keep out opposing spells and reduce the effect of enemy arrows. He then unleashes a cloud of poison gas which hits everyone except Kazoo! but with little effect as most of the party is able to hold their breath until the greenish mist dissipates. Walster and Enzo are both hit with powerful acid bolts, drenching them in acid and badly damaging their magic weapons. A number of bandit swordsmen form a loose defensive wall near the doorway and backed up by a few spearmen, attempt to keep the intruding adventurers at bay. Enzo fires at the area near the wizard again and downs both a spearman and skirmisher. Raistlin, not being able to see past Wii’s cloud of darkness to the east, looks the other way and hurls a wide blast of magic to the west drawing about a half dozen bandits, mostly the defending swordsmen, into a bunch. Wii then hits the same group with her most powerful spell, downing a lone spearman and injuring the rest. Kazoo! breaks past the line of swordsmen and heads up the eastern wall. Nekk follows the little rogue but is blocked by the bandits and Walster moves into the large room, driving a couple swordsmen back, leaving Enzo and Raistlin to keep blasting small groups of bandits from long range. Walster is surrounded by swordsmen and then flanked by supporting spearmen who jab at him from a distance. Upon command by the archer leader, most of the archers fire upon the unfortunate Mul Warden (Walster) who is the target of no fewer than ten arrows. Unable to see Walster due to darkness blocking their sight, Nekk is fired at four times by the remaining archers, causing a couple moderate wounds. Luckily for Waster, only a couple of the arrows hit. The bandits rally and the bandit swordsman on the far east of the bandit line who heard Kazoo run by, but couldn’t strike at the little rogue in time, moves into the room where Enzo and Raistlin are. The swordsman calls out and a huge bandit spearman leader, along with a second spearman and a second swordsman face off against the lightly armored mage and archer. Enzo immediately downs the smaller spearman and wounds the leader spearman. Raistlin blasts the wounded spearman, knocking him back and then both Enzo and Raistlin use magic to leave the small room and enter the main room where the majority of the fighting is taking place.

    In the west, Wii takes down another spearman and a swordsman that Walster had badly wounded. In the center, Walster continues to bash away and the enemies surrounding him, wounding one, then another, driving them to the sides. Since the archers continue to concentrate their fire on Walster, in a rage, Walster breaks off from the five bandits he’s fighting and charges toward the only bandit archer who is using a crossbow and hits him hard but far from out. The bandit leader stops exchanging arrow fire with Enzo and draws his axe in order to charge Walster and hit the warden in the back. The bandit spearman leader also moves over to jab at the huge raging Mul but only manages to hit him with a grazing jab to the leg. The bandit crossbow man yells for help and all the nearby archers fire on the Mul, the many arrows bouncing off his thick hide. By this time, Kazoo has moved along the perimeter of the room and behind the enemy mage whose wall of protective guards are lying on the ground with Enzo’s arrows in them. Lining up an exacting strike, the little Halfling rogue sneaks up on the Red Wizard and runs him through, making one hundred percent sure that the bandit mage won’t be casting any further spells. Nekk in the northeast corner of the room, takes down one swordsman, but there’s a second one still swinging at him. As Walster breaks out of the center of the room and charges toward the back wall, several of the enemies that were battling the raging Warden, then rotate over in an attempt to take down the human fighter swinging the odd looking ball and chain. Aiming at the most wounded new comer, and dodging his prior enemies, Nekk connects and takes down his second swordsman. Seeing his nearby ally now surrounded by enemies, Enzo fires into the crowd and drops an additional swordsman and a bandit using a long sword / dagger combo. Having broken out of the small northern room, Raistlin blasts across the room, into the batch of badly wounded enemies battling the out of control, raging Warden. The elven wizard succeeds in downing two archers and two bandits both wielding twin scimitars with this well placed blast.

    With the bandit numbers now considerably thinned, a swirling fight breaks down, with no semblance of order. Having taken down the wizard, Kazoo then takes down one of the remaining bandits fighting Walster. Enzo, seeing an especially wounded swordsman, focuses fire and downs his second swordsman. A couple of the bandits badly wound the little owl bear, and Wii makes them pay, downing the big bandit spearman and an especially tough bandit archer. Raistlin picks off his third archer as well as the bandit sub-commander, an especially evil bandit wielding twin daggers. Walster turns away from the bandit archer and bashes the bandit leader with a crippling blow to the leg, allowing Wii to finish off the bandit leader with a blast of magic. Nekk dashes forward and engages the bandit archer leader, hitting them twice with a pair of heavily damaging blows but just short of putting them down. Enzo, sensing weakness, fires a normal arrow which deflects off Nekk’s shield and still manages to hit the bandit archer in the chest and although it is not a deep wound, is more than enough to down the badly wounded archer. As the last remaining bandit swordsman strikes a slicing blow on Raistlin, Enzo puts him down with a pair of quick arrows, ending the long fight. As the party is resting up, Enzo finds that his bow is damaged but finds a very fine Greatbow on the enemy leader.

    The group moves south east avoiding bandit barracks. Continuing to head south, the group eventually finds a temple area with minor priest barracks to the west and a library and worship area to the east. The group finds the Book of Abyssal Darkness and Nekk is stunned when he touches the book. Raistlin is also damaged and stunned when trying to examine the book so the group decides to leave it. Returning to the altar area, the group looks behind the wall hanging and finds two secret passages and take the one on the southeast. After defeating a room with two false doors with both false doors being trapped, the group finds a short hallway with a secret trap door to a stairway going down into a huge underground cavern. With Kazoo! leading the way, the group moves down the stairway and as Kazoo! reaches the halfway point, the stairs flatten! Kazoo! is able to leap off and grab the side of the stairway, dangling very high up over the cavern floor. Raistlin, Nekk, Walster and Enzo are plunged into the pit of fire as Wii flies by over Kazoo!. Nekk leaps straight up, grabs onto the edge of the pit, pulls himself out and then dives onto the nearby cavern floor, rolling on the ground to put out the flames. Despite the flames, Raistlin manages to get off a spell, allowing him to teleport out of the fire. Enzo uses a power of a magic item and flies up a short distance, and then beats out the flames with his cloak. Wii adjusts her wings into the steep dive directly toward the flames and sprinkles pixie dust on Walster, allowing the huge Mul to fly up before being burned to death. Walster lands and tries to run around but can’t put out the flames. Three other party members try to help him put out the flames but nothing seems to work. Finally, the flames die out on their own. After making sure everyone is no longer on fire, the group rests and tries to get their bearings.

    Once safely on the floor of the huge cavern, the group can confirm what Wii’s small bird companion saw regarding the cavern. They are on the banks of a river crossing their path and stretching far to both the east and west. The adventurers also cannot see the other bank clearly. They decide to move east, away from the campfires and eventually come to some sort of magical barrier. Upon reversing their course, they find a stout wooden post to which is attached a silver horn on a sturdy chain. Kazoo! excitedly blows the horn and a large raft appears. The party gets in, with Wii flying slightly overhead and to the side. Kazoo! concentrates and the raft begins to move across the river. About half way across the river, Raistlin and Kazoo! seem to fall through the floor of the raft and are then seen screaming in intense pain in the water nearby. Nekk lunges over and with a burst of strength, yanks Kazoo! up and back onto the raft. Wii turns her wings and performs a banking dive over Raistlin, sprinkling him with Pixie dust so he can fly up. Both Raistlin and Kazoo! are drenched in acid and after the others help them remove and dilute the acid, they continue on and make it to the opposite shore.


    They get off the raft and navigate through the large mounds, being careful not to disturb any. As they approach the large building, to the far southwest, they see a large number of campfires and lizardmen around each campfire. They are challenged by a pair of lizardmen scouts and Nekk and Enzo convince the lizardmen that they are here to find work that the great lizard king might have to offer. The lizardmen return to the fires in the southwest and the adventurers make it to the massive front doors of the temple. Nekk attempts to open them but to no avail. Kazoo! cannot find a key hole or other device to open them. Raistlin, schooled in history, religion and the mystic arts, correctly guesses the password and opens the doors.
