cloak of distortion wanted

Gabby can now afford a cloak of distortion so she can have -5 vs. ranged attacks too! :-)
Question: She has a cloak of resist +1, can this be upgraded paying the difference, or does it have to be crafted new? If has to be crafted new, who can make this for me & does anyone want to purchase a cloak of resist +1?

Either Nevin or Espirit can make this for you.

As far as I know, the cloak has to be made new.

I don't think a Cloak of Resistance can be upgraded to a Cloak of Distortion since the properties and Daily powers are different.

Espirit can make the item at whatever his cost is. I believe it's 80% of book value.

Since I can only get 20% for the cloak of resist +1 anyway, would either Nevin or Esprit be interested in Gabby paying full book price for the cloak of distortion, minus the 20% value of the old cloak (and the old cloak, of course)?
That'd be the same price I can get anyway, and if either of you ever want followers or anything, that's far cheaper than you could buy a cloak for (and it's a great item for low level followers). Could be a good deal for everyone...

You will pay 840 (price of distortion cloak) - 104(20% of resist cloak) = 736G and I get to keep the resist cloak.

If you took Espirits offer, then you pay 672g for the cloak (840 * . AND get to sell the resist cloak for 104 making what you pay only 568g.

Sure I'll take that offer! Unless you want to rethink that is.

You're right. How about 625gp + the cloak of resistance +1, in exchange for a cloak of distortion? That gives profit to both Gabby & the caster who helps her out. Gabby saves just over 100gp off of regular book prices, and Nevin or Esprit gets a 520gp cloak for less than the price of a healing potion.

Thread Hijack time. If I am reading Ken properly for crafting it costs 80% book value? Are the crafters passing on this savings? If I am understanding this properly I am going to have to get more items made versus buying.

Yeah, if you have a +1 Sword say, and you were 6th Level and wanted to make it a +2 Sword, you could just pay the difference and have it upgraded. Ross, chime in, doesn't that sound reasonable?

Hmmm...I guess that begs the question regarding if you could also add special abilities to your ordinary weapon... my initial reaction is, yeah, as long as the resulting end item is at or below your level.

We decided that you could add an ability to a basic weapon (with only +'s), paying the additional cost to upgrade it.

...did this transaction actually happen or is it still open?
I'm trying to determine as the DM if Gabby could still use a cloak of distortion as I make up the monsters for the next adventure.

Espirit will make it for 840gp.

To him the +1 cloak of resistance is worth 104gp (sale price).

625 + 104 = 729, not enough to make the cloak.
