You take a plastic stencil (small is okay) and airbrush the grid on from straight above. You'ld have to use a thin but stiff plastic stencil and raise it above uneven terrain with straight pins.
If price were no object, there are a few companies who could easily laser etch the grid on.

How much do you think lasering would be? If all of us contributed it might notbe to bad. Thought about the airbrush thing but thought that would create fuzzy lines since the stencil wouldn't be flush due to uneven terrain.

Yeah, the airbrushing lines wouldn't be very crisp, just playable.
Laser etching will vary alot depending on how large the part (errr board section) is. The graphics companies I'm familiar with all do this for the aerospace industry. There's one that does non-aerospace applications in Magnolia. For one 18" x 18" section, your probably looking at $75+. I'll shop around in the next couple of weeks as time allows.
