Played a few hours of RoS last night.

I liked the map layouts and the new monsters. It took a while to get used to the increased monster levels and had to decrease the setting I was using.

I played Torment 3 before RoS without much trouble and even killed Diablo without dying. In RoS I could kill normal monsters but elites were more difficult.

The monsters are a lot tougher when you play in a group game. Even in Torment 1 I died a lot to elites.

The new items drop seem to be very powerful and I like that you can take an item to the Mystic and have one of its properties replaced. I found a really nice wand 1.8k DPS that didn't have a socket and removed one of the minor properties and added a socket. I got lucky since the newly added property was random.

Leveling is pretty quick, I'm already at level 68 I think the new max is 70.

Played D3 quite a bit over the weekend since the rain prevented my yard work plans (at least that's the story I'm sticking with...).

The expansion feels quite a bit different than the base game.

I do miss the auction house where you can shop and buy what you want for your characters. Though the greatly increased drop rates and much improved item crafting helps a lot.

Instead of farming specific areas, they've added Adventure Mode.

In Adventure mode you can either do Bounties or Rifts.
Bounties:
The game selects 5 missions for you to compete. They can be to kill a certain monster, clear an area, defend a chest/shrine. After each mission you get bonus gold/XP and when you finish all 5 you get additional bonus gold/XP and a chest which you can open to get random loot.

Rifts:
If you have enough rift keys (you get rift keys by killing elites or from chests) you can open a portal to a random area(s). There you need to kill monsters until you trigger the Rift Guardian. Once you kill the Guardian you get double loot. Magic Find and Experience bonuses are increased while in a Rift.

Not sure if Bounties or Rifts are available without the expansion.

I still mostly play my softcore wizard, but have managed to get my Demon Hunter and Crusader to level 70.

For Bounties/Rifts I generally stick to Torment 1 level and go to Torment 3 when farming crafting materials. The crafting materials aren't too hard to get (a little time consuming), but gives you things to shoot for.

Another thing that is different from base D3 is that stacking elemental damage of the same type has a big impact on your overall DPS.

I initially started focusing on Lightning, but I found a good Arcane wand and am now focusing on Arcane damage.

I'm currently doing +58% additional damage. Now I just need to upgrade my helm for arcane damage, find a good Stone of Jordan ring, and work on reducing my cooldowns.

Lots of changes in D3

Season 1 started over the weekend where everyone gets a chance to make new characters (separate stash/items). In Season 1 there are new items that non-season characters can't access yet.

When Season 1 is over the PC will be transferred to the main account along with their items and paragon experience.

They've also added goblin vaults. Sometimes when you kill a treasure goblin they open a portal to their lair (pretty rare, I had a portal open once). There you fight a few of their guards and their boss and can pick up tons of gold. When the portal opened for me I was in a T3 game. My Hardcore character bank went from 9M gold to 60M gold.
