    I do ok...

My wizard can pretty much walk though Act 1 and half of Act 2 and mow everything down with little effort. I still have trouble with the latter Acts, but can get through them.

Last night while playing in a public game a guy joined with his Demon Hunger (lvl 60/65 paragon), he walked through pretty much everything in Act 3. The rest of the party was sprinting trying to keep up with him while at the same time trying to fill their pockets with all of the loot that was raining down in his wake. It was pretty impressive.

Wow. Either the Witch Doctor is very tough, I forgot how easy normal/nightmare levels are after Hell/Inferno, I'm getting better, or Ken's idea of a big gem in new characters is powerful. I have a +300 life gem in my weapon and a +23% exp in my helm and I went from 16th to 45th walking through Act 2 normal to Act 3 nightmare. The only thing that kills me is a combo: boss and minions plus computer screen crashes.

I think my monk had the hardest time reaching 60, still needs to beat Diablo Hell, my wizard was notably more powerful beating Diablo Hell on her first try, but my witch doctor seems notably more powerful again. Is that true? Thoughts?

Having big gems in socketed items and low to mid levels is huge.

Life On Hit for a level 20 char should be around 30hp or so. Having 300 means you'll never/rarely need healing potions.

I can't count the number of deaths my wizard has had between levels 1-30. The Demon Hunter I'm now leveling up has died once in that same level range.

I haven't played the Witch Doctor yet, but I think all classes would benefit greatly from having large gems in sockets.

Yes, the amethyst gem makes a huge difference, at all levels, until the 2nd chapter of Inferno. Then you get pwnd, unless your equipment is good.

After spending all my gold on equipment plus around $100k repairing equipment from dying about 20 times, I finally beat 'the Butcher' in Inferno! :-) (Witch Doctor) Now, I'm dead broke and just as Ross said, I'm getting my ass kicked in Inferno Act II.

If I go back to act I to farm gold, can I skip the Butcher and go back to act II, or do I have to try to beat him again? I barely have enough gold to repair my equipment now ($37k)... :-/

Yes, you can go back to previous levels and play them, and then skip levels to where you were at before.

You know it's much more money efficient when fighting Elite groups that you have trouble beating, to just find a good place to re-spawn, and log out of the game and start the level over. Of course if your dying from the Butcher this doesn't work. However, if I hit a hard combo just log out and back in to get different monsters. Another good way is to just run from them and don't bother killing them.

You can also have them chase you to a location out of the way and die. Then they stay there and you can respawn and just avoid them.

Played in a game with Brad last night. I think he was surprised at how often my wizard died. affraid

The end of Act 2 and beyond is very difficult unless you have really good gear.

For Act 1 and about half of Act 2 I prefer the Archon build since I can walk through most mobs. Past the midpoint of Act 2 the only wizard build that worked for me was the CM/melee build where you continually freeze the monsters and whittle them down. It's slow, but I only have trouble with moltant and fire chains groups.

Got Brad to Act 3, but he may want to do Act 1 farming until he can afford equipment upgrades.

I sure was! I think you died 3 times (to my like 20). Yup, I think Act I is about my speed right now... I tried briefly to secure the "breech at Bastion Keep", I couldn't get past the firey floor! Sad

My Witch Doctor could sort of handle act I... "Warrior needs gold, badly..."

Post by Dwarmaj Thu Oct 04, 2012 12:41 pm

When I do Act 1 farming I usually do:
    0. Set quest to Imprisoned Angel, Cursed Hold
    1. Go to Whispering Forest and kill 3-4 elites
    2. Go to Cemetary and clear out the elites in each of the three crypts.
    3. After I have 5 valors, clear the event that is located in one of the three crypts
    4. Portal to Halls of Agony 2 and make your way to the Butcher.

After killing the Butcher, sell stuff, then log out, reset quest, and repeat.

I think I've killed the Butcher 100+ times... I usually make 120k-150k on each run. The better your equipment, the quicker the run will be. I think it takes me about 30m to do a run.

Some people have a second set of gear with lots of magic/gold find for Act 1 runs. It'll have lower DPS, but you'll get better stuff and more gold.

I've been mostly doing public Act 3 games and getting more gold, but the same type of items.

The Butcher doesn't really drop that much. Normal elites are almost as good if you have 5NV.

Once you get the hang of the Butcher's patterns he's a lot easier.

Finally killed the Larder. He was even tougher than the Butcher. I'm starting to suspect that the bosses generally get tougher in each act...

On that note, there is a huge leap in difficulty between Act I Inferno & Act III Inferno!...

    I'm broke again.

I don't have a character able to farm in act 2.
I get killed to much. Ending up paying as much to repair items than I earn.

In Act 1 my DH can cruise thru without dying. It only about 100K/hr
My monk has good ac & resistance but low damage. It take forever to kill than in act 2.

My Demon Hunter can't do squat in Act II. I haven't had luck finding any good builds. Finally gave up until I get more gold for her.

My Monk was getting killed a lot, but then I changed up his build a bit and now he does really well solo in Act II. If I'm with others I tend to die more because the bump in monster power ends up messing things up for me.

    Here is my build:

Okay, I think I have a better build for my Demon Hunter. Give this a try Mick, and let me know how it works for you.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Saturnus-1572/hero/10891006

Using Vault and Impale you should be able to take out monsters quicker than if your just shooting them.
Vault has the benefit of burning them with 1,500% weapon damage, as well as moving you away from them.
Main points are your get away abilities also inflict damage.

When farming I still prefer Act 1.

With my Archon build I can clear Whispering Forest, Cemetary, Halls of Agony/Butcher in about 1/2 an hour. I normally get about 100k and lots of rares (1-2 AH worthy, the rest are sold for gold).

Another way to rack up gold is to join an Act 3 public game. If you're in with people who are much higher in level you end up just following them around and scooping up gold/items.

Just magic/gold find. Though as you advance you'll find/afford better equipment.

    DPS/Defenses is a trade off.

I remember my wizard having 40k DPS when he first started Act 1 Inferno, but only ~300 resist all and about 15k HP. I'd kill anything not close to me, but die constantly to elites/bosses.

For Act 3 & 4, you'll definitely need high defenses...

In act 2, I see a lot of jailers, waller with molten.

My DH feels soft with 3790 AC and 385 resist all.

Need to get better armor, resist all and pump up her hit pts.

Resist All seems to be more important than the AC. I can usually stay away from general Melee especially with Vault and Smoke Screen.

Post by Dwarmaj Tue Oct 16, 2012 1:48 pm

From reading the forums, it seems that 10AC=1ResistAll

With buffs on, I believe my wizard has 6k Armor, ~800ResistAll, 56k DPS, 26k HP.

    In this config,
    Act 1 no problem
Act 2 usually no problems, though a few elites combos are tough
Act 3 very difficult, normals are tough, die a lot to elites
Act 4 haven't tried in this build.

When playing Act 3&4 I play my defensive build:
With buffs on, 7k Armor, ~900ResistAll, 25k DPS, 19k HP.

It takes a while to kill things, but very few things can kill me (usually just moltant and fire chains).

I still have quite a few items in my storage that I don't use... If there is anything specific that someone is looking for let me know.

Rarely find anything I can use.
Have to buy at AH. Need to farm more.
How much do you typicallt spend on a item?
I've been spend in the 50-70K range.
I think I'll have to move up to the 200-250K range.

Depends on the item. I would spend 1 million if it was a good hard to find item.

The prices on a lot of stuff has come down a bit in the last month or two.

I've spent a lot on my wizard...
    3M for my sword
    1.5M for my wand
    3M for gloves
    3M for chest armor
    2M for offhand source
1 to 2 M for Shoulder, bracers, pants, amulet, left ring each
    2M right ring
    1.5M for boots
    500k for helm, belt

You don't have to spend that much though...

Here's a link to where a guy spent 300k total for his wizard and played through Inferno Acts 1-4 and killed Diablo

Thanks to Mick's tip on increasing my Critical Damage I was able to walk through the rest of Chapter 2 without dying, even killing Belial in my first try. On to 3 to see how I do there.

Do you know what Monster Power setting you're playing at?

Patch 1.05 made the monsters easier by default. I believe MP0 is the default. MP2 is slightly below what patch 1.04 had.

Have no idea. I checked the box in options to toggle the monster power, but don't see where to change it. So I must be on default, because I'm cruised through Act 3 and Act 4 is easy, except for Rakanoth, who has a teleporting attack that kills me instantly.

After you go to Options->Gameplay and check to enable monster power you can change quest.

Then you can select the difficulty and monster power.

Just tried MP4 Inferno, killed five packs of elites, but died at least twice on each pack. Sad

When you're in-game the upper right corner will say Inferno (4) to denote Inferno Monster Power 4 (if that's what it's set to...)

Yep, mine was set to zero. I thought it was too easy. So what do you get for setting the monster power higher? More gold and items? Because I'm getting tons of gold and items, and 3 legendaries in a day, by having the setting at zero.

    Take a look at your:
    Magic Find
    Gold Find
    Bonus Experiance

In the higher MP settings they get boosted.

On MP4 I had over 300% magic find. even the rares I was finding had great stats.

I tried MP3 and had a hard time killing normal monster.
The bar on the bosses hardly moved while pelting it with rapid fire. Couldn't kill it after 6 deaths.

Set to MP1 was about right. normal monsters didn't die with one shot. About 3-4.
Killed about 8 sets of elites and dying maybe 4 time. It took a while for them to go down thou.
Quality of items seemed slightly better. A few for the AH but none I could use.

I believe the number of items you get from elites is based on how many valor stacks you have.

The quality of the item is based on you magic find.

So to get better items you need really high magic find which is easier to do with higher paragon levels and playing on higher MP settings.

Congrats on Diablo's defeat. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Was that with your Witch Doctor?

I'm still struggling with the new patch. The build I normally play works fine on MP0, but above that it doesn't work any more.

Looks like I need to save up 5-10 more million before I can attempt MP4 again.

I found a Key of Destruction last night. Took about 10 tries on MP0, then found it on my first try on MP2.

Will try to get the Act 2 key next. Looks like there's only a 10% chance of a key drop at MP0 and the chance increases 10% per MP level.

Looks like you need multiple of each key and they're hard to get unless you play on the really high MP settings.
