    Clan Mui was all the buzz in the Vampire world as an up & comer clan, but is now all but decimated with 1 hope left for power, the 'Eve of St Vigeus' ritual. They've fallen because, although every team was advised to 'lay low', especially in the later months & weeks every team ignored that warning and went patroling most nights slaying lots of newly sired Vamps.

    Since everyone made it to the rendevous, Giles thinks this is a good thing since many in clan Mui are about to have their century aniversary (like Blade witnessed) and become much tougher foes. (What does Angelus & Ember say about the close call with the cops last encounter?) While it turned out good, he does shake his head at having to train a bunch of head strong teenagers...

    They seem to have teamed up with clan Aralius for their upcoming ritual.

    GM note: you think the eve of St Vigeus is pretty soon...

    Which encounter is the party going to tackle next?

    Sorry, don't remember what our currently options are.

    I remember we needed to check out the basement of the library at school, but that is probably where the ritual will be held.

    Not sure what our other options are.

    All Slayers:

    Each team discovers that the Vampire covens that killed your families all stuck around your home cities, taking great joy in welcoming newly sired Vampires into their coven, teaching them hunting strategies for feeding on Human(oids), how to use their new Vamp abilities including the martial arts moves they all seem to naurally pick up, etc.

    All of you except Telgarth recognizes the coven symbol as part of the Mui coven.

    Telgarth:

    Teaming up with Vala helped you make underground contacts for smuggling, as her fence gave you a contact for an up & comer mob boss. I'm going to assume that you choose not to smuggle drugs, slaves, choosing instead to specialize in gun running. Note: For some reason, in the Buffyverse, flame-thrower type weapons are not as common as real world, and you don't think anyone in this organization is Undead.

    Because you & Vala proved yourself over & over to be able to get out of tough situations, you were recently trusted with a bigger contract than guns. You & Vala just returned to San Foggy from the Orient with about 100# of special saphire crystal in its raw form. You are of course expected to not ask questions about the delivery, but you recognize the material as similar in form and quantity of the glass blown La Magra statue.

    Ember & Angelus:

    Being a former bookworm, re-reading some of the old tombs you read previously on magic, Ember is now able to notice subtle errors in the books of the esoteric subjects (like Undead & magic), and while she does get a few "you look a little like that girl from the news..." type comments, no one that you know of puts together that the conservatively dressed bookworm is the same person that the media protrayed as a teen showgirl slut who went on a killing spree with her 2 boyfriends.

    Angelus, since Undead are in large believed to be fiction, and I think Revenants look Undead, I'm going to say most students/peers think you're

    Over time the 2 of you notice several University admins & profs disappearing in the library for extended periods of time and you eventualy discover a secret, hidden basement level to the library. The 2 of you only had an opportunity to check it out once so far, and while you easily bypassed the familiar severed finger trap, you only went down far enough to see that it's at least as big as the upper library, but because you heard lots of activity further in and saw 2 large Zombies chained to the entryway to the lower library, you did not explore it.

    Blade:

    Not even a couple weeks after the casino massacre, Selena solicits your help to discreetly as possible buy up as much pigs blood as possible, filing a whole bathtub ideally. She is sensing that her century anniversary as Undead is close, and with a proper blood ritual, a 'quickening' or infusion of Undead energies is possible (that is, she'll go from 5th level minion to 8th level regular Vamp).

    Selena makes a great partner & getaway driver for your heists now that she has more than 1 hp (& is a very skilled driver). Targeting medium wealthy Vamps as marks to rob, business is going pretty smoothly, and the last penthouse you just hit you discover has lots of fine glasswork, some displayed, some in progress, and you discover detailed blueprints for a hollow crystal large demon statue to be commissioned soon. A hand written note on the blueprints say "exact same specs as previous".


    Ashe:

    You fit in fine with almost all of your co-workers in the high tech firm you picked up a temp contract to work for, except for one. He was solidly the 2nd smartest engineer there and took an instant dislike to you. He's made subtle accusations that you look like the casino massacre 'other man' in the love triangle killing spree that was all over the news. He's kind of a douche though and no one likes him. The other engineer no one talks to is a super freak genius that never talks to anyone and is always working alone in his lab. You decide one day to spy on the super freak's work one day when he actually wasn't there (very rare), and discover that in addition to his company work, he's also very busy on building & refining several high tech vigillante type gadgets.

    Also, since you spent the most time with Giles, your Watcher, you get a 1-time only +2 bonus to your next knowledge check.



    All Slayers:

    During these 6 months, beside the above, you all finished off the Vampire hordes that attacked your families, but since 1 team had 2 families to put to rest, and a great idea was sent to me on how to play it, I want to play out either Ember or Angel's family encounter.

    Meanwhile, Ashe, Blade, & Telgarth just might stumble upon a young brash new Slayer that happened to bite off more than he could chew (if Trevor posts his PC...)

    Please let me know if you have any questions so far, and which leads you want to pursue first... (or at all)

    I vote for the guy with the detailed blueprints for a hollow crystal large demon statue to be commissioned soon.

    Without the demon statue they can't complete the ritual.
    If we fail there we can hit the ritual in the library as the backup plan.

    Pretty busy with work... 2 to 1, so I guess we go check out crystal supplier.

    Things seem pretty vague to me which is why I'd prefer to hit the library.

    Haven't heard from Blade or Telgarth, guess they don't care where we go.

    Yes. Telgarth and Vala work for the smugglers that are bringing in the saphire crystal (100#s) and they arrived in tonight, right before the crystal is supposed to arrive in the morning by their employers (they smuggled it in from Asia to San Foggy).

    Blade shares with the group the address of the Vampire mark he & Selena recently robbed, and it just so happens to be the same as the address Telgarth remembers the crystal shipment being delivered to next (Telgarth found this out very covertly, usually no one knows both supplier and customer, as that's bad for smuggling cartel)

    Does the party:

    go to the Vampire sculpter's penthouse before the crystal shipment arrives? (i.e., tonight)?

    intercept as the 100# shipment of saphire crystal arrives in the morning?

    go to the Vampire sculpter's penthouse after the shipment arrives?

    some other plan I haven't guessed?...

    Angelus & Ember: You finished your family mission late this morning and hooked up with the others right after they met Aura, early evening this same day. If one of you did all the driving, the other could have taken an extended rest in the car (if we say Angelus' hometown is about a 9 hour car drive away... -ish), assuming there aren't rules saying otherwise about riding in a car, but the other is still on the same 'day' as everyone else. Which one drove?

    Going before the shipment doesn't seem like it would accomplish much except tip them off that we are looking for it, and maybe delaying them a bit if we kill the sculptor, as they'd have to find another.

    Ambushing the shipment might not be bad, although it'll probably be heavily defended.

    Going after the sapphire arrives seems like a good option.

    This would be in the morning, giving us time for a extended rest.
    I think we should go stake out the sculptorstarting at night while taking a extended rest until the shippment arrives. After the delivery we take out the sculptor and destroy the sapphire dust.

    I don't think we're doing much hashing...

    Sounds like the current plan is to watch the place at night and hit it when the crystal arrives.

    Our position will probably be dictated by the building/vehicles in the area.

    Ashe: 51/59 10/13
    Aura: 52/58 11/12
    Blade: 45/50 9/11

    (I healed everyone up to partial surges, Ember had an extended rest since last encounter. Let me know if you wanted to use 1 more surge or not)

    The boys met Aura early evening, we'll say 7:30pm, by the time you reunite & share info then head out, we'll say you get to the Sculpter's house around 9:00pm.

    Blade brings you all there no problem. You are in a pretty nice neighborhood (whose map only appears to be same as last one... Wink ) and brings you all to a townhouse home with 2 very tall stories and an underground parking garage. (Blade recalls most of the Vamps he's hit had underground parking...)

    We'll say Giles checked for you and dawn is at 7:18am this morning, and Telgarth's employers are supposed to be there around 9:00am to deliver the smuggled raw crystal.

    You can tell there is activity in the house, but like most Vampire homes, this one also has heavy curtains so you can't really see in.


    Let me know what other scouting questions/actions you want, and when you make your move...

    How far is it from the cabin to where we meet up?

    One of you had to drive though, so only 1 of you gets an extended. I figured Angelus was driving since Ember was maintaining the Flaming Sphere as long as she could while you two were driving off. I asked you both 2x who was driving, but since neither of you posted a response, I chose what made the most sense from the end of last encounter.

    I also wanted to give everyone the choice on their hometowns they were from, but you didn't make a choice so I just made it "a 9 hour drive" to Los Diables (Los Angeles). (Angelus & Ember's encounter was at 10:00am, everyone else's at 7:00pm, this way you all hook up at the same time.

    An extended rest is 6 hours and doesn't have to be continuous.

    Since it's a 9 hour drive and it's more important that Ember gets her rest (she needs the beauty sleep), Angelus will drive 6 hours, then let her drive so that I at least get a head start on my rest.

    That way I'll try to rest while we watch for the smugglers. So if the encounter starts after 10pm I should be fully rested.

    Oh. I thought it was 8hrs & DID have to be uninterrupted. 10pm doesn't give time for reconnoitering with the others etc. We'll say 11pm then...

    The party can tell there's activity all through the night in the townhouse, no one seems to be sleeping in there, but no one is coming or going. Let me know what the plans are...

    From the Compendium (and PHB p263):


    Extended Rest
    Duration: An extended rest is at least 6 hours long.

    Once per Day: After you finish an extended rest, you have to wait 12 hours before you can begin another one.

    No Strenuous Activity: You normally sleep during an extended rest, though you don’t have to. You can engage in light activity that doesn’t require much exertion.

    Regain Hit Points and Healing Surges: At the end of an extended rest, you regain any hit points you have lost and any healing surges you have spent.

    Powers: At the end of an extended rest, you regain all your encounter powers and daily powers.

    Action Points: At the end of an extended rest, you lose any unspent action points, but you start fresh with 1 action point.

    Interruptions: If anything interrupts your extended rest, such as an attack, add the time spent dealing with the interruption to the total time you need to spend in the extended rest.

    Is driving stenuous? City driving can be, but when you're on the open road you can just set cruise control...

    If I'm rested by 11pm that's fine. Just wanted to know if you can rest and drive.

    True, which is why I brought it up. Truck drivers do have to stop from time to time.

    But as strenuous activities go, I wouldn't put it high on the list.

    It does say you can engage in "light" activities.

    The rules are a bit vague as to what light/strenuous activites are.

    True, but one requires some attention, the other has no reprocussions for inattention. I'd say anything that can cause 'road rage' isn't quite resting...

    Sure, but I'd take that to imply that an occasional light activity wouldn't add time to the 6 hours. Say, 5 min round trip to pick up fast food or something while basically relaxing for the evening. Spending the entire 6 hours driving isn't the same thing, imo.

    Oh yeah! This was another PC choice we had that could have made a difference on the length of the encounters. 1. attack right away: fight clan Aralius, then later clan Mui, then later either bluff or fight smuggler allies of Telgarth. (easy choice) 2. attack during the delivery: add a full encounter to the difficulty (3 encounters in 1, overwhelming choice), 3. after delivery as played out (difficult choice).
