Wouldn't the trap have been disabled when we came through the first time? Does it reset it self?

Attack living creatures that come too close without bypassing it properly. Beyond that, no one took the time to invesitgate it further.

Yup. Ember & Blade had to bypass it all 3 times you passed it earlier.

Yay! The party's close, but not out of the woods yet... Ember's turn.

Ember does a religion check & 4+11+2=17 success and recites the proper religious phrase to approach the severed finger, then moves 6 to as far as she can get without triggering the trap.

Telgarth goes and moves 5, besides Ember & the trap and 18+5+2=25 succesfully bypasses the trap. You can hear the horde of Vamps gaining on you this round (you don't think they're running). You wouldn't know this, but they are now 11 squares behind you. Telgarth is no longer regenerating at 22/34 after drinking his potion.

Gun girl on stage 10+13+2prone=25 hit Blade for 10+8 flurry, then shifts SW 1 and as a free action, drops her gun. Blade is bloodied again with 7 hits left.

Blade notices the the huge chest thingy to her W is chuck full of what looks like gas cans, as well as some sort of electronic device.

Blade, Angel, then Ashe's turn. Note: all 3 of you are currently prone.

    Move: stand up

Free: Look for captaves to free

Standard: free any captives within reach, otherwise move toward someone to free.

Unlike other striker features FoB is a second attack that auto hits.

Anything that increases or decreases damage affects FoB separately.

Blade would have taken 10/2+8/2=5+4=9hp or damage.

Forgot you were insubstantial. I looked up the gun shot & that was 5 hits, plus the 10+8, so you should get back 2+5+4=11 hits, bringing you back to 18 & not bloodied. Waiting to meet a resident, I'll resolve these actions right after.

With a run/run, Ember & Telgarth are at the casino level and I assume proceeding down to the kitchen level?...

Whoops, I was about to resolve these actions and noticed Blade is still prone. (Last round you crawled through the blood river then teleported.) She's only 5' away from you, but you can't shift while prone (without a feat) so you'd provoke an AoO.

    Revised actions for Blade?...

Angelus' turn, We'll say in a square adjacent you find a post with 2 survivors shackled. (Most have 1, some 0, 2, or 3)

Angelus stands and 12+5-2 for improvised tools = 15 thievery exactly success to pick the locks. Two guests are now free.

(If you have TP&T, then you made it by a lot)

    (+minor, grab sword...)

Ashe stands and activates his sword again & the gun girl starts smoking (to take 5 damage on her turn instead of regenerating 5). And with a little trash talking, casts Blazing Starfall max distance & just barely catches her in the burst (11 squares from you now) with a 18+6=24 v ref hit for 9 radiant (+5 vulnerable)

Me too. You'd think I'd remember since all 3 of you were.

Blade stands, throws a shroud, and 9+6=15 misses fort.

Angelus & Ashe's actions as posted above, then Ember and Telgarth's actions posted above, then the gun girl moves 7 S & SW and throws what looks like a lighter into the red area behind the stage and it lights up like a x-mas tree, fires quickly spreading all along the red area & up the W wall.

Blade, Angelus, Ashe, then Ember & Telgarth...

Ouch! Blade moves, shrouds, and casts ES and 18+6=24 v fort hits, for (1d6)6 +6 dex +6 NS (2d6)7 shrouds for 25 hits. She is bloodied and adjacent to Blade's SW.

    Angel then Ashe...

1 quick note, I believe we determined that I should be getting 1D4 + 12 for my starfall damage 6CHA + 6 Something (dragon sorcerer or cosmic sorcerer or something. I will check back through the other thread for the exact thing that gives it to me.)

What are the captives bound with? Handcuffs?

How sturding are the objects their bound to?

It looks like my chance to free them is 50/50 and I'm trying to see if it would be better to try to break/cut whatever is holding them.

The posts they are bound to seem very solid. The shackles (handcuffs connected to a short chain to the posts) seem pretty cheap, but still metal.

Note: Ashe doesn't have a magic implement, only Ember & Telgarth do. I don't think BS can use his sword...

    Krystoff wrote:Move: 4 SW

(added +6 damage from last round)

Ashe moves full movement SW and summons a Blazing Starfall that 12+6=18, miss. She is still taking Sun damage though and isn't regenerating.

Ember does a partial move and 12+11+2=25 easy success for religion check.

Telgarth does a run and 1+5=6 thievery, fail.

The horde of Vamps do 2x moves and are 5 squares behind Ember, and 8 behind Telgarth. (You don't know that exactly, but you do hear them getting closer.)

Gun girl does a Vampiric shift/attack on Blade after moving to his N and 3+13=16 miss. She then shifts NW

Blade, Angelus, Ashe, then Ember & Telgarth...

Blade shifts adjacent to the gun girl and 13+11=24 hit the Vampiress for (2d4=7)+6 dex +6 NS +2 sword +(1d6=3) shroud=24 hits and she had 23 left... she just barely dies and takes a long time to burst into dust than most of the others. As she dies, she says, "No matter even you Slayers cannot stop La Magra, and the planets align once more this ce..."

The electronic device by the empty gas cans in the big crate N of Blade appears to be some sort of detonation device, best you can tell. Flip the blinking big red switch?

Angelus and Ashe (& Blade starting next round) can act in initiative as a group. That is, it's not going to matter what order the 3 of you post your actions each turn for now.

Angelus & Ashe's turn... then Ember then Telgarth... then the Vampire hoarde...

GM Note: So you guys can plan ahead, with the time it took you guys to surge up and fight the kitchen battle, rescue survivors for Vala & Selena to take to Giles, rummage through and find magic potions & magic items, investigate the furnace, office battle, rummage through each room there, surge up again, and then this battle, I'm going to say time wise we're about 15 mins to sunrise. Gile's motel room is about 3 miles toward Hollygrove Hills, the main coastal city about 20 miles away. This casino in in the woods on a mountain pass top. Per your plan, Vala is with Giles taking care of the 5 guests from the office, as well as everyone else, and Selena is in the other hotwired tinted window very nice car (pick two under $100k... Vala has nice taste & would have stolen the very best ones in the lot). Oh, and if you can think of something ok, pick a Buffyverse name for it.

See if this vamp girl had keys or other items to help. Take her gun and any ammo. Look for other helpful items on stage.

There is no Vamp girl anymore. She, everything she was wearing, and everything she was holding burst into dust with her. She dropped her gun though on the stage a couple rounds ago.

On the other side of the huge crate look like interesting religious items, perhaps valuable, but nothing that can help pick a lock.

Are the stools they are shackled to portable?

How long until this place goes up in a blaze of fire?

Can I tell what the detonation device blows up? If I can tell is it portable?

Are there any other exits from the altar floor or the office floor?

I don't believe there is a -2 penalty for "improvised tools".

    OPEN LOCK
Make a Thievery check to pick a lock.

Open Lock: Standard action in combat or part of a skill challenge.

DC: See the table. You get a +2 bonus to the check if you use thieves’ tools.

    Success: You pick the lock.

Failure: You can try again as a new action.

You get +2 if you have tools, but there is no other penalty normally associated with opening locks. The captives should be able to find something small even a spinter of a broken chair to try to jimmy a lock...

You're saying that there is no way to pry the chains from the walls/posts? We can't use parts of tables/stools as leverage to either break a link or break it free from the wall? 2-3 people pulling on it may have a chance, but it could take more time than we have...

Since Ashe went to go look at the thing that looks like a bomb I'll ask him if there are any numbers or any indication as to how/when it'll go off.

They aren't stools they are posts and they are built as part of the floor, specificly designed for shackling a body to.

Very quickly. But meaning several minutes to an hour, not melee rounds. It's a fairly big, tall building.

Now that the baddies are gone, Blade & Angelus notice and tell you about tiny explosives taped up to the roof, right above the red area throughin the flames. (After they were done they were going to blow it to vent the roofs to help the fire. It's very portable.)

Note, we are still tracking melee rounds in relation to Ember & Telgarth and the hoarde, so only Blade can see the device.

Nope, nope, nope. There is only a single door or window on the entire building and you've all checked thoroughly as you'e come up from the kitchen. Ember even walked the perimeter before going in.

This entire room & everything in it is built specificly and only for this sacrifice (except for the specific previously noted exceptions). There are no such items to which you are referring. We can discuss it further after, but for this encounter I'm going to say you cannot pick a modern metal lock with just your fingers & clothes.

Ashe did not go look at the thing. Your initiatives in the altar room do not matter in relation to the other two anymore, but they still do in relation to Ember, Telgarth, and the Vampire hoarde below you. We are still tracking melee rounds.

You may be right, but after this encounter lets talk about if this is an adjustment we should make for the modern world. In the modern world there are things like paper clips & electronics. I'd think for our setting we should use the tables based on them.

Grab religious items this round, since I'm next to them. Then use standard to run towards the gun.

Got it, but, you are not next to the religious items, you just dusted the Vamp. But you can see then on the other side of the big chest thingy. (w/in 1 movement away)

Also, it's a long while until your turn. You just dusted the Vamp and then Angelus freed another group of captives.

Ashe's turn... then Ember then Telgarth, then the Vampire hoarde...

    To DM:
How many captives or sets of captives are there?

I know we're not bomb experts, but is there a way for us to determine how much time we have? It looks like part of the room is on fire, how long before the fire reaches the bomb?

    Angelus talking aloud:
Guys, it doesn't look like we're going to be able to free everyone before this place blows, lets focus on freeing as many as we can...

I counted 33. The small posts each have a chain of 3, the large posts, it looks like the Vamps were doing ritual cutting on.

The explosives are on the corner of the ceiling and already in the flames. The detonator is on a switch, but not on a timer.

Just trying to visualize how they are chained to the post. If they have a chain connecting all three to the post can we cut the chain and get all three of them free or are they each chained to a separate spot on the post?

Can I use my sword to attack the chain(s) to get them free?

If we can get all three at once then it should takes us 11-15 rounds depending on rolls.

If we get 1 at a time then we will somehow need to get the prisoners involved to help free others have they have been freed.

Ashe will move to the nearest post and free either 3 or 1 of them with his standard.

EDIT: What about the posts? How are they set into the floor? Can we bust them out? What if the prisoners aid us?

The floor is a weave of rubberized metal bars, under which is a great big drip pan pouring down into the river of blood area. They are not set into so much as a part of the floor. And yes, it's one lock per post to release up to 3.

Alter room group is freeing surviving sacrifices. Ember's turn, then Telgarth, then Vampire horde...

Telgarth does a run and 1+5=6 thievery, fail.

So we didn't disable the 2nd trap.

    move: move up to Telgarth
standard: thievery check to disable trap
If I think I disabled it
free: say "go Telgarth and if you see a gas line to a kitchen appliance, cut it"
