1 Is it worth having a non-DnD DnD session? on Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:37 am

I know we've had a hard time getting some of the old players to start up again, but was just thinking if it would be beneficial to have a session where we could go over:

Character creation
Rules of 4E
Party member roles
Team tactics

I think the tactics would benefit current players as well since we could get a better idea of what works and what doesn't (team and individual wise).

I would love that, but I think the problem is getting the former players to show up.

True, role playing could be added. Especially how Skill Challenges has changed it from previous editions.

The players aren't required (normally...) to use their knowledge or dedcutive skills, but instead rely on the skills they've chosen for their character and the roll of the dice.

I would also like to see us make better use of Skill Challenges/Checks. Perception is heavily used, then maybe Insight, Religeon, and Arcana. But many of the others aren't used nearly as much as they could be.

Yeah, I'm down for "hanging out" too. As backup, if peole brought their PC's for WAR!, SF Black could always go on either "Ambush" or "Security" Patrol near the front lines and run into an encounter or two.

Yeah, we've been working on re-integrating some of the "prior" players for quite a long time; e.g. Terry, Steve T, my kid brother, Damon, and Saki, but the chances of getting them to go somewhere are low. The best chance would be if there were something more "formal" set up and we called them on the phone. To raise the bar to 100%, but for only one of the prior players, would be to invade thier place to hold the session.

I'm okay with the group we currently have (the "prior" Westron players are more than welcome if they ever do rejoin the game) and I agree that a strategy session would help current players too.

I had a few great ideas to work skills into the last WAR! adventure I ran, but just plain ran out of time to flesh out those encounters with the skill related aspects. I'll have to try to put those features in my next adventure. Still haven't seen much feedback or chat to my other post on what I as the DM thought of the party's actions during the last session.
