New York Times Article

Probably a good idea. You know how many geeks would be committing crimes if they knew they could play all they wanted to in jail.

Our legal system is whacked...

The reasons they gave are ridiculous...

Dungeons & Dragons could “foster an inmate’s obsession with escaping from the real-life correctional environment, fostering hostility, violence and escape behavior,” prison officials said in court.

The dice are the real threat. That's what allows you to pick the locks.

Okay, now I actually read the article...

"In an interview, Professor Somin said the prison’s action was reminiscent of a media frenzy in the 1980s surrounding the supposedly pernicious effects of gaming. “Ideally, you should really have more evidence that there is a genuine harm before you restrict something,” he said."

By "more evidence" he actually means ANY! I remember that Tom Hanks movie, and it's premise was utter bullshit. (entertaining enough though)

The Tom Hanks movie should have been more of an Anti-Drug movie, but they turned it into an Anti-D&D movie.

They have no evidence and I agree the reasons they gave are utter BS. I think they should ban chess in prison as it might foster the prisoners to think ahead, a key element in planning an escape.
