1 Windows Scan Virus - Malware - Fake Defrag on Fri Jan 21, 2011 6:51 am

...my home PC is infected with the Windows Scan virus, a fake tool and rogue
security system application. I've tried deleting the application w/o success.
Anyone have experience with this type of stuff? Tried a google search already
and that helped me identify the problem.

If there's not an easy fix, I'm gonna drop it off at HDNW.

Do you have anti-virus software on your PC?

Every Windows based PC should have anti-virus software. I like Norton Security its about $70 per year for 3 PCs.

As far as getting the virus off, there are several sites that will run an anti-virus scan on your PC on a trial basis then you can buy a real version later. There may even be some free ones, but I've never used them and don't know how trustworthy they are...

I also get the Norton Security its about $70 per year for 3 PCs and sometime there aregood rebate on it.

You may want to try some anti-malware software like Malwarebytes. They have a free version.

I've been using AVG free for years and it's never let me down. I've never had to eliminate viruses from my computer so can't help you there. If your able to access your drive and save your files I would just do that and reformat my computer. It could probably benefit from a fresh install anyway.

I also like Norton for several of its other features...

Parental controls...

- I can enable/disable specific or types of web sites the kids can view.
- I can enable/disable certain programs on the PC so they can't use them, but they still have access to the programs they need.

If you have Comcast internet(Stu), you have free norton security suite. Sign into your account online and use your free comcast account to get free nortons.

Yep, have Norton and Malware Bytes on my PC, but it still got through. Oh well, I dropped it off at HDNW and they're fixing it now. (Stuart, using Kobe's PC)
