Hmmm...So, if the current on-line adventure is over, then there are several of us that have 9th level characters available for additional gaming. Is there anyone besides me that is interested in continuing to play their PC's from the on-line adventures into the Paragon Tier?

Any of the DM's thinking of someday in the future making a series that will start somewhere around 9th level and go up from there?

I was thinking of a new campaign completely outside of Westron again (like Jalalabrad), playing 1x at 1st to introduce the campaign, world, and PCs, then fast forward to 6th level for another adventure, then play out 1 level per adventure from 11th on. (I'm thinking like a movie montage where the heroes quickly advance to 11th)

I guess it wouldn't really conflict if someone wanted to play the same PCs or create a new one, but there will be some differences... Note: the females are all Cha 16+, the heroes will all be ultra powerful superheroes (all stats 20), the world will be very magic light (to start with none), and will center heavily around Vampires & their company.

This new series is sounding a lot like Jalalabrad; e.g. 1st level adventure, outside of Westron, Fast Forward to mid-level and then one adventure per level, all women are stunning, and all stats 20, light magic.

The Jalalabrad series was really refreshing and a heck of a lot of fun. Rifocs ranks as one of my all time favorite characters. If this is outside of Westron and all stats are 20 and the enemies are Vamps, I'd start a new PC rather than play Sonya who is very tied to the World of Westron (see her history, she's a princess). Likely name the new PC something along the lines of...hmmm...Kennedy, Anya, or Faith.

I can see the high charisma for the NPCs, but for the PCs?

The unbalanced scores does cause balance issues and 4.0 is all about balance...

I enjoyed it too! Smile I was happy with the take away that we went to 1 adventure per level, but by comparison, this is the best compliment for a GM... Thanks!

Very Happy ...the world will be heavily influenced by Joss Whedon's Buffy/Angel world! But with some major differences, of course...

I wasn't planning on stopping it. We can play that campaign out to 20th or 30th if we want. I just had inspiration for another campaign... the new one's not really ready yet anyway.

Thanks Ken for running the online adventure.
It kept us well entertained between D&D sessions.
Hard to believe we started this about 18 months ago.

I don't plan on playing Candelos in any further adventures.
There's other classes to play and if I play a paladin again, it would be built different.

Brad, would your Buffy adventure setting be modern like Jalalabrad or stanard medevil?
All 20 stst supper heros may be to much. Maybe PC are given enough points to have 16 in all stats and they can distribute as they like. I'm prefer this to be paragon levels.

I don't mind ending the Dragon War at 20th.

I think I'll start a separate thread on the "all 20's" subject...

Yeah, you guys know me, I'm not into "Epic" stuff so I'm all for ending the Dragon series at 20th and starting a Paragon series. Good question on the middle ages vs. modern setting...since there aren't any rules out for d20 Modern, it would almost have to be middle ages, right?

I was thinking standard medeval, but I can be flexible if we liked the modern setting. (Until we start the campaign anyway...) Does anyone have a strong preferrence?

    Why?

It's not like 3.5 where PCs have pages and pages of abilities. Characters have a few more options at epic, but are still limited to Minor, Move, Standard actions. The monster will have more HP, but the PCs will do more damage.

We've never really played an epic game either. The closest we got to it was Jalalabrad where I think we ended up around 17th or so.

...don't know really...just not too jazzed about playing Epic...or DM'ing Epic for that matter. Saving the whole world each session isn't as "nitty gritty" as my tastes go. Hmmm...yeah, now that I've typed a bit, I guess I'm more a reality based guy and the further you get into Epic, the more unbelievable it gets; yeah, I know, fighting undead and monsters in a fantasy game at lower levels is still unbelievable, but I can almost picture downing an entire enemy squad or platoon of infantry with a blade, but slaying an army of powerful devils with a wave of the hero's hand is too much...

For player's Epic is about the same as Paragon. For DM's Epic is a complicated since monsters have more complex powers.

That'll only happen if the DM doesn't use an appropriate level encounter for the party or the party is fighting minions.

My socerer at level 16 is +21 to hit and +29 damage. I've scoped him out all the way up to 30th and he'll be +35 to hit and do +49 damage at that point. Since NPC hitpoints scale faster than PC damage, I don't think anyone will be slaying a army of powerful devels with a wave of the hand...

In 3.5 yes, but things have changed in 4.0.

PCs are more powerful in epic than in heroic, but WotC wanted the battles to last about the same amount of time whether you're playing at heroic level or epic.

One thing we can do either in person or online is to have one or two mock epic level encounters. This will allow us to see if playing into epic is worth it or not.

    Thoughts...

Sooner or later, one of the DM's will try an EPIC session and I'd be willing to give it a try. If it turns out great, then great! But knowing what I know, and given a choice I'd rather play and DM in Heroic and Paragon, which could be fine.

I know what you mean. But you gotta have both, imo. And, to Ken's point, the tiers seem all more balanced than before... low end's not as useless, high end's not as godlike invulnerable. In any case, when we play it, I hope you keep an open mind, and I think you'll have more fun than you expect! Smile
