Ask Miri to evaluate the key and the bracers (I'll add them to the group treasure list).
Hey, no one's going to come in here. I say we take like a 30 minute rest (I don't think we'll be able to take an extended rest) and have Sonya keep using her healing powers so that we get the very most out of the surges we have left. Better to get the extra 10 hits or 2d6 per surge than not. I have a hunch we're going to need every surge we can muster in the next battle. Holy smokes, I think that's the toughest battle I've seen since we started playing 4.0....

Current PC status:

Kaddim 19/79hp with 6/11 surges
Candelos 32/78hp with 8/14 surges
Miri 10/58hp with 6/9 surges
Thia 11/65hp with 6/7 surges
Sonya 5/66hp with 6/9 surges

I'll need to know how many surges each PC will use and what powers Sonya or others will use to augment the surges.

Every HP may count for the next encounter...

I'll use 2 surges. With Sonya's augment that should put me at full.

That's was the tightest encounter so far.
A couple bad rolls our way and it's a TPK.
I think the Medusa battle was closer to being a TPK than this was. Granted, this encounter inflicted more damage on us.

Me too, and if I roll bad on the extra hits, maybe use a third...

Hey you guys, don't use your surges right away, I can only augment 4 surges every 5 minutes using IW (adds + 2d6) or RW (adds + 10 hits). No one's going to come in here for at least a little while. By healing us up, worse person first on a rotating basis, we should be able to maximize the surges we have left.

Atfter 2 surges I'll still be down 7 hp. So if you can augment one of mine.

We sure could use a extended rest. Used all be dailys.

I don't think we are using them all at once. We are using them as you augment them.

I guess the biggest question is whether you're going to take the an short rest and don't use any surges.

In order to have Sonya use her encounter powers to heal you have to take a short rest and don't use any surges. Then she can help with four surges then another short rest.

If everyone wants to use two surges and benefit from Sonya's powers then you'll need five short rests.

1 rest for her to recharge
3 rests for her to augment 4 surges per rest (total of 12 surges can be augmented)
1 rest for her to get her encounter powers back

Do you want to take the first rest without using surges?

Yes. After Sonya recharges her encounter powers.

Why does it take 5 rest to recharge 4 times?

337 Re: Following the chains... on Thu May 20, 2010 3:20 pm

Since I only need 1 augmented surge, I'll use one surge before resting.

Sonya already used up her encounter powers to boost our surges. We need to rest 5 minutes before the first surge is used if we want Sonya's augment. ...And again if we want her to have her augments ready to go for our next encounter. Hence, one extra rest needed (one on both ends).

1 rest for her to recharge
3 rests for her to augment 4 surges per rest (total of 12 surges can be augmented)
1 rest for her to get her encounter powers back
After rest #1 Sonya augments 4 surges
After rest #2 Sonya augments 4 surges
After rest #3 Sonya augments 4 surges
After rest #4 ready for next encounter

After taking several rests and having Sonya augment healing this is where the party is at:

Current PC status:

Kaddim 73/79hp with 4/11 surges
Candelos 77/78hp with 6/14 surges
Miri 48/58hp with 4/9 surges
Thia 53/65hp with 4/7 surges
Sonya 52/66hp with 4/9 surges

Does anyone want to use another surge before moving on?

For the next encounter, we can all use our second wind, but I used all my daily powers so I will only be able to have the party access five additional surges. That means as a group we'll be able to access 10 total surges as we have no healing potions left and I think Candelos is dry on heals. We have 22 surges available right now so I suggest that Miri, Sonya and Thia all use one more surge now.
If the group thinks that the surges we have left have to last for more than one more encounter, then we should stand pat. We'll have to hope that Kaddim and Candelos soak up the majority of the damage in the next battle and I'll concentrate on healing them. I'll also pick up all the javalins that I threw that missed if any are still usable.

During the several short rests... Kaddim and Miri study the bubbles that are still floating about and teleporting the PC occasionally, that they are unstable planar matter.

The party hasn't noticed any ill effects, but you are still being teleported. You figure there is a 25% chance of being teleported (16 or higher on a d20).

Which way does the party want to go? The room you're in has a door leading west. Or you can go back the way you came where you saw a hallway leading south.

Thia will use the 2 surges with the augments and then use an additional surge to be at full.

Sonya is with Thia, I'm going to use one more surge now to be at max. The one battle we just fought costed us nearly 30 healing surges. If the next battle is going to be as tough as Ken is hinting and we can only access 10 more of our 22 remaining surges, we need to tap into those 12 or so we won't be able to access. Miri should also use a surge. Since Kaddim and Candelos are the big damage sponges, they will be best off if Sonya heals them with her powers during battle so they get the most out of each of thier (more numerous and stronger) surges.
