    Yes, the trap shifts anyone stepping on them toward the pit.

    Thia determines that if an attack misses you shift 1 square. If it hits it'll do much more than that.

    I assume this is considered a encounter.
    Candelos can teleport to the next landing, the rope could be thrown to him and we can ferry people across the shifting stairs.

    I can then do the next one, etc, etc. Maybe short rests on the stairs to recharge them, or maybe we just tie a rope to someone and they try to get up.

    Well, that is skill based and doesn't use up teleports. Lets try that and we can use teleports as a last resort.

    Thia was able to temporarily (she doesn't know for how long) disable the trap on the stairs. It took her five attempts and she had a couple of failures.

    The party moves up to the second landing.

    I'm going to guess that the seams are part of a trap. Can I get some help to try and determine fully?

    Determining what the trap is requires a Perception check. I assumed Sonya was helping again when I rolled the check for you.

    From the last flight of stairs Thia would know that it required a Thievery check to disable and Sonya's help didn't help much...

    No, you have to see the trap in action or know what it does before you can attempt to disable it.

    After three rounds of studing it Thia can see that these stairs move a bit differently than the last set.

    Thia attempt to disable the trap. After three rounds (failures), Thia activates the trap instead of disabling it.

    Thia is pulled onto the stairs and attacked. 26 vs Ref hits for 3hp of damage. Thia is immobilized (save ends).

    Thia should have gotten a save at the end of her turn, which I forgot. She rolled an 18 and is no longer immobilized.

    Stu, you can redo Sonya's turn. Thia will remain on the stairs, but is no longer immobilized.

    From over the top of the stairs the party sees humanoid bird like creature (it looks similar to the harpy the party fought in a previous battle).

    The creature lands next to Miri and breaths...
    Cloud of Ash on Candelos 32 vs Fort (critical) hit for 15hp of fire damge. Candelos is blinded (save ends)
    Cloud of Ash on Thia 28 vs Fort hit for 9hp of fire damge. Thia is blinded (save ends)
    Cloud of Ash on Miri 17 vs Fort miss
    Cloud of Ash on Sonya 31 vs Fort hit for 9hp of fire damge. Sonya is blinded (save ends)


    Miri and Kaddim then see a second creature fly over the top of the stairs. This creature looks like a demon made of stone.

    It swoops down attacks Thia, then flies back to the top of the stairs out of sight.

    Claw attack on Thia 22+2 vs Ac hits for 10hp of damage.

    The map I used during the harpy's turn was incorrect. Sonya should be adjacent to Kaddim and is not in the area of affect of the breath. I'll add back the 9hp and she is not blinded.

    Yes, you rolled a 1&2, the downside of using larger dice...

    I was surprised they both missed their saves too, at least it wasn't for a more damaging affect.

    I currently have Kaddim at 32/73hp with 1/11 surges.

    Before the party started up the stairs he was at 37/73hp with 1/11 surges.

    Note: Your turn ends after the charge... Does Kaddim now have charging boots that allow a shift after the charge? I don't have them on his character sheet.

    Gargoyle #2 makes a claw attack on Thia.

    If Candelos knows which direction the gargoyle is he'll take a blind swing at it with Valiant Strike.

    Any of the non-blinded PCs can tell you which square the gargoyle is in.
    Candelos' turn:
    Standard: Valiant Strike 18-5 vs Ac miss

    At the end of Candelos' turn he rolls a 4 and remains blinded.

    ...before I go, I'd like the status of the party so I can see who I need to heal. Also, since I can't see the maps here at work, I think I'm still next to the harpy. If I am, that's good but I'd also like to know if any non-blind allies are also next to the harpy.

    Minor Action - Inspiring Word on Kaddim, use normal to give the extra 2d6 hit points back.
    Move Action - convert to Minor Action - Shake it Off on Thia - Thia makes Save vs. Blindness with a + 5 bonus
    Standard Action - Hammer and Anvil on Harpy, Str vs. Reflex + 13 vs Reflex for 1d12+6
    On a hit, Kaddim gets to take a basic melee attack at the Harpy as a free action with + 5 damage. If I hit, I gain + 2 AC vs. the Harpy.
    If Hammer and Anvil hits, and if Kaddim hits, then use Action Point - Standard Action - Lion's Roar on Harpy
    + 13 vs. AC for 2d12+6. Effect - Candelos gets to use a healing surge and adds an additional + 5 hits (my Cha modifier).
    Done...

    If you guys need hits and are in a position to attack, you might want to consider using an action point since we're getting low on surges. It only gives you 9 hits back if you're near me (and you all are) but it is a way to get back hits w/o using a surge, and you get to beat up on the bad guys too!

    Minor: Inspiring Word on Kaddim. Kaddim uses his last healing surge and regains 18+9hp. Kaddim is now at 59/73hp.

    Move: Shake it Off on Candelos (Thia is no longer blinded, but Candelos is). Candelos rolls an 18 and is no longer blinded.

    Standard: Hammer and Anvil on the harpy
    H&A 32 vs AC hits for 18hp of damage. Kaddim gets to use a melee basic attack on the harpy.

    Kaddim MBA 31 vs Ac hits for 13 (+5 from Sonya)hp of damage.

    I'll have to wait until I get home to resolve the rest of the turn. I'm currently not showing action points for the party. I'll need to recalculate who has what...

    Correction, H&A was 32 vs Reflex, not AC; still likely a hit. 18 hits! Okay the good rolls are starting to balance out the earlier bad rolls. Doing Shake it off on Candelos instead of Thia is exactly what I would have done, cool.

    Since this is the third encounter everyone has at least one Action Point...

    Since Sonya's attack hit and Kaddim's attack hit Sonya wanted to use an Action Point and use Lion's Roar on the harpy.
    Action Point: LR 30 vs Ac hits for 24hp of damage. The harpy looks badly wounded...

    Kaddim notices that it should be the harpy's turn, but it seems to be delaying.

    Kaddim's turn, at the start of Kaddim's turn he takes 5hp of fire damage from the harpy's aura.

    Oh, before Kaddim's turn gargoyle #1 attacks...

    Gargoyle #1 flies over the top of the stairs and does a Fly-by attack on Thia.
    Fly-by attack 25 vs Ac hits for 12hp of damage. Thia is knocked prone.

    The gargoyle then flies back over the top of the stairs out of sight.

    ...don't forget, as a result of Lion's Roar, Candelos gets to use a healing surge and he gets an additional 5 hits back. Also, since Sonya hit the Harpy twice during her turn, Sonya's AC is 2 better than normal against the Harpy. Was hoping that Sonya could drop the Harpy with Lion's Roar, hopefully maybe Kaddim will drop it.

    Sorry Ross, I skipped Miri's turn.

    It should be the harpy, gargoyle #1, then Miri and Kaddim. The harpy delayed, the gargolye attacked and flew out of sight. Now it's Miri's turn.
