    The path up to the "fire room" is already cleared. No PC has been to the "cold room" though...

    The party had no trouble getting to the "fire room" entrance.

    Hmmm...the cold room and fire room appear so close together that we're going to alert the monsters in both rooms no matter what. Sonya recommends a "front heavy" formation with Thia and Miri (the ranged attackers) in the very back row; basically, trade Candelos and Thia in the formation. Sonya says that two of the melee types (perhaps Candelos and Sonya) move to block the passage between the cold and fire rooms.

    Not seeing any other comments so I guess the party is following Sonya's lead...

    Sonya and Candelos make their way back into the water room and head north. They enter a large room with doors to the east and north and an open entryway to the west.

    The room is completely empty. The doors to the east are frost covered.

    The rest of the party is waiting to the southwest.

    Sonya will motion to Candelos to advance to the hallway between the fire and cold room. Sonya will watch the statue and walk w Candelos while Candelos watches mainly to the front.

    Sonya will motion to the rest of the group to advance, maintaining the same distance from them as from Sonya/ Candelos. In otherwords, Sonya and Candelos are forming the point element, ahead of the mainbody of Kaddim, Quinn, Thia and Miri.

    Thia will stay back towards the hallway (able to see most of the room) to provide cover while actively scanning the area with her perception. If we aren't threatened, she will study the prison to see if there is a lock or some other mechanism that turns off the energy.

    Vyrellis says she doesn't know, she's never been to this room before. Maybe someone can examine the pillars.

    Sonya and Candelos move adjacent to the NE pillar in order to take a closer look at it.

    Here's what Candelos notices:
    1. Sonya isn't very helpful in her helping...
    2. There are scorch marks on the pillars from the energy emanating from the top of the pillars. It looks like the energy use to incompase the entire pillars and streach all the way to the pillars to the south and west. The energy still goes to the other pillars, but the pillars themselves are exposed.
    3. The energy output from the top of the pillars is fire, thunder, and lightning.
    4. There seems to be a crystal orb at the top of the pillars that the energy is coming from.

    What next?

    So, there is a crystal orb at the top of each pillar? Does it seem reasonable that a hard blow would have a chance of breaking a crystal orb?

    Does the fire/ thunder/ lighting energy extend from the top of the pillars where the orb(s) is/are all the way to the ground? e.g. Could someone dive "under" the energy? IOW, does the energy basically form a continious barrier from the floor all the way to the top of the pillars? How high is the top of the pillar; any chance that someone could jump over the barrier?

    Yes, there is a crystal orb on the top of each pillar. The energy field extends all the way to the floor. It looks like it use to encompass the pillars which wouldn't allow for someone to climb up.

    You think a hard blow would break the orb, but you don't know what would happen if the orb was broken...

    It looks like someone could climb to the top of a pillar (20' up), DC 18 Athletics. On a miss, there's a good chance they'll take damage from the energy field.

    Looks like Thia has a 50% chance to make it up with a +8 in Athletics. Acrobatics is much better though.

    Would a bow shot be a viable way to break the orb?

    Thia fires a few shots at an orb...
    Most of the arrows are fried before they can hit. Those that make it through deflect off.

    Sonya makes a second attempt...

    Sonya uses her heavy axe and easily shatters the crystal orb. The energy flowing between the pillars stops and the body of Vyrellis falls to the ground.

    Sonya may have only taken 6hp of falling damage. Looking into how the rolls take place.

    The pillar is 20' up and climbing up takes two move actions since you move at 1/2 speed. Do you roll at the end of each move action? Or do you roll at the goal?

    I initially rolled when Sonya was 20' up, but that would be two move actions.

    If it is one, then...
    1st move check failed (13) and Sonya would fall 10' for 6hp
    2nd move check succeeded (23), Sonya is now 10' up
    3rd move check succedded (31), Sonya is on the top 20' up.

    wouldn't the rolls be iterative, otherwise how would the DM know where the failure had taken place?

    I think you did it right. It doesn't make sense that a 20' wall would be the same check as a 100' wall. Each action should be a check, exactly as you did it.

    I'm assuming Miri crafted her bag of holding & filled with books from the library, as well as Kaddim's & Sonya's items (from their gold).

    Also, she'll repick her spells to memorize 'wizard's escape' instead of 'dimension door' and 'stinking cloud' instead of 'Bigby's Icy Grasp'.

    Kaddim and Thia are examining the SE pillar.
    Sonya is on top of the NE pillar.
    Candelos is covering Sonya, about to go check out Vyrellis' body.

    Miri is providing cover for the party.


    When Sonya strikes the crystal orb, the energy field goes away and Vyrellis' body falls to the ground.

    Candelos is planning on checking out the body, what will the rest of the party do?

    Thia will keep an eye on the orb(s) and the energy field to make sure it doesn't come back. Last thing we need is to get Candelos trapped inside the energy field.

    Sorry, was waiting to hear back on actions for Kaddim, Miri and Sonya. I guess the actions I have above is what they want to do.

    Candelos moves to Vyrellis' body, but when he gets 10' away, the orb he carries flies from his hand/body and moves into the body of Vyrellis lying on the ground.

    The body of Vyrellis stands and turns toward Candelos. Emmbedded in the stomach of Vyrellis' body is the orb. Within the orb Candelos can see Vyrellis' head. She looks scared and seems to be screaming something, but no one can hear her.

    I've rolled initiative for the party (including the +2 from Sonya). The order is:
    Miri, Thia, Sonya, Kaddim, and Candelos.

    But before any of the PCs can move, Vyrellis' body takes it's turn... (she beat everyone's initiative)

    I'll try to take Vyrellis' turn before lunch...

    The pillar seems "somewhat" stable. It didn't shake much when you climbed up, but you feel that someone really strong might be able to topple it over in a few rounds.

    pillar sounds like it is stable enough that I'll stay up there for now, especially if I was above the razor blast. I have several meetings back to back, may not be able to post Sonya's next action until early afternoon.

    Can I use Weave through the fray when she moves adjacent to me to shift 5 sqaures north?

    Since it isn't a surprise round I don't see anything preventing Thia from using an Immediate action.

    Note: The action(s) that Vyrellis' body takes will probably change...

    Yes, I will use it to move North 4 and then NE 1 to get next to the wall and away from Candelos.

    I figured it would change her actions.

    Vyrellis' updated actions:
    Move: move SE adjacent to Thia (then Thia weaves away...)
    Standard: cast Razor Storm, new location catching Candelos and Thia
    Minor: Force Wave, this time it only catches Kaddim for 8hp.
    Action Point:
    Ray of Ruin on Thia 24 vs Ref hits for 10hp of necrotic damage and Thia is weakened (save ends)

    Miri's turn, she is no longer in the Razor Storm affect and can act normally.

    Thia will try to disrupting strike the ray of ruin as that looks pretty nasty. Apparently she has something against Thia!

    You can only take one Immediate action per round and Thia already used Weave Through the Frey.
