By allies, we are talking about the Humans, right? (We also made a truce with the Treats, but I'm not as comfortable resting there!)

Yes, they are who I have in mind, because then we can cure another Lycan curse.

Unless of course we kill him. With Miri's heal skill, that might be a possibility. I doubt anyone else is going to take the ritual caster feat...

I don't think you can kill him with the others in the party helping out. It is a pretty simple make for the rest of us and as long as you get above a 0 then it is only damage.

If it's Lycanthropy straight out of the book, you're right. If it's not, it only needs to be +4 resisent for a chance to kill. (assuming full up at the time of casting)

So, is something going to happen, or do we get in an extended rest?

When Sonya takes a look at a few books, she notices that they're blank. On further inspection, 50% of the books are blank, 25% have half of the pages blank.

The party continues to attempt resting but you are continually interrupted by dreams of Karavakos.

Also, periodically during the rest Sonya, Candelos, and Kaddim loose encounter powers. They come back after five minutes, but you don't remember using them.

Darn it! Okay, we'll relocate to the Human encampment & try to get an extended rest there (as soon as I've copied all the rituals!).

...Since I can't be with all my books anyway, once we get there I'll cast the comprehend language ritual on Sonya.

Kaddim, it might be a good idea to check everyone with your goggles again when we get to the Human encampment. It's kind of strange what whatever's happening is only happening to the 3 of you...

The party leaves the library and heads over to where Ferrence and the humans are located, they're in the southern room with the teleporter/fire trap. The party makes it without problems, and they report that all is quit.
Miri casts Comprehen Languages, what do you want to ask the Mindstrike?

39 Re: After the library battle... on Tue Sep 29, 2009 9:39 am

First goal, gain information on who the Mindstrike is allied with, if there are any more of them, and who he is trying to communicate with and what he was saying. Offer potential assistance in getting released from this place in exchange for the information. The questions would be: "Who were you trying to communicate with? Are there any more like you and the others? What were you trying to say to them or were you tryin to speak to us and if so, what did you want to say? If you help us, we're your best chance to get out of this place."

Second goal, gain information on all areas and creatures of this complex currently unknown to the party. Use our current knowledge as a means of confirming if the Mindstrike is being generally truthful. Offer our knowledge of areas unknown to the Mindstrike in exchange. The questions might be: "Tell us what you know of all other creatures in this complex, thier locations, motivations, strengths and weaknesses."

Third goal, attempt non-agression pact (at a minimum) with the Mindstrike. Attempt to identify the Mindstrike's potential near term motivations and plans. e.g. "What do you want to do next; Why? How did you come to be here? Would you consider helping us if we were to help you? What aid or assistance can you offer us; in other words, how can you be of help or value to us?"

If you wish, I can list scores of questions, but I think in the spirit of 4.0, skill challenges and situations like this tend to be much more generic than before...

Since it looks like Miri will have to be the one to interpret, she will act as translator, but she will introduce Sonya as our leader negotiating in our behalf & just translate. (I.e., I want to use Sonya's diplomacy, even if at a minus for not speaking the language, than Miri's diplomacy). As Miri introduces herself, she'll say that Sonya bid her to cast the Comprehend Language ritual, and that she negotiated the truce with the Humans that we're staying with, to help make Sonya appear more powerful a leader.

Kaddim's disease detection:
Neither Ferrence or the other humans are diseased. It looks like Ferrence has the ability to spread disease though.
Thia makes a DC15 Nature check and determines the following.
Lycanthropy is hereditary, and lycanthropes mate with those of a similar species to produce lycanthrope offspring.
Some lycanthropes can also mate with similarly sized humanoids, sometimes producing lycanthrope children. However, the blood is diluted in this way, and many such children never change or instead become shifters.

Ferrence mentioned that he's always been able to control his shapechanging before. This place has affected him somehow and can causes him to loose control in addition to greatly enhancing his hybrid form.

From an earlier post...
Quinn, Candelos, and Sonya were each affected by Moon Frenzy. Sonya made her initial save and was cured. Quinn fell into stage 2, while Candelos fell into stage 3.

Sonya's interragation:
Through the use of Diplomacy, Sonya is able to determine that the mindstrike has been comunicatting with his comrades even after being captured (though it is currently out of range).
He tells you that there are several more of his kind north of the library (but won't give numbers) along with a wizard that they keep there.
Sonya also learns that the mindstrike is perfectly happy in the pyramid and has no motivation for leaving or helping others leave.

After a while Miri or Kaddim think to make a knowledge Arcana (monster) check...
The mindstrike belongs to a race known as Eaters of Knowledge, they're also called Brood of Vecna.
When these beings linger, books become blank and memories fade...
(I mentioned in a previous post that encounter powers periodically fade, but are renewed 5 minutes later. You now believe that the mindstrike is somehow feeding off those around it.)

Are you going to mention the dreams to Ferrence, the humans, or the mindstrike?

No, I won't tell them, but I will use 'Ghost Sound' to whisper discreetly to each of the party members (one at a time):

"Now that I have time to study them, I recognize these fiends from my studies. They are called the Brood of Vecna, and are capable of eating & feeding off memories & powers of those around them. I say we finish him. ...In fact, it may be dangerous to keep him in proximity of Ferrence."

...via Miri's spell, Sonya will tell the Mindstrike that if he doesn't immediately cease using his mental powers to disturb us, we will consider that agressive action and have to defend ourselves.

After 20min or so no one experiances fading encounter powers.

When the party attempts an extended rest, each PC is still unable to rest due to the dreams.

When questioned... the mindstrike says he's not responsible for the dreams. He says that they take thoughts, not give thoughts.
