BACKGROUND
Hunter's family owned a small secluded ranch East of the Gulf of Odil. When he was still a child, slavers happened across them, killing his mother and capturing him and his father. They were both sold to a crimelord in Grahalla. Hunter's father was sent as a novelty to fight in underground deathmatches, where he was eventually killed. Hunter was kept as a typical slave, but as he grew older the crimelord took interest in his impressive dexterity. He was trained to be an assassin adept with the crossbow, and became an excellent marksman. He was eventually offered a deal; if he performed hits for the mob, he'd be granted a modicum of freedom, and given better living conditions. If he refused to perform a hit or ever tried to escape, he'd be hunted down and killed. Hunter accepted, and quickly became a feared name among the enemies of the crimelord as the "Hunter of Men." In his line of work he assassinated rival criminals, town guard officials, traitors to the crimelord, and even some lesser Kern nobles; anyone who opposed or obstructed the crimelord was fair game.

Eventually though, Hunter's opportunity for true freedom arose. A rival crimelord from Odell turned a mob business meeting into a hostile takeover. Observing the chaos of the battle from an adjacent rooftop, Hunter put a bolt through a window and into his crimelord's neck. Satisfied he had avenged his father, he vanished into the night and used his criminal ties to hop a ship smuggling weapons to the Grong Island rebels. What better place to vanish than a war? Maybe after the fighting ends he can even return to a lifestyle of ranching, and perhaps even recall the given name he lost as a child. For now though, Hunter will do.

DM's questions so far...
Ross; Chang-Chi - please include some background and a Wishlist with items up to and including 6th level items.

Trevor; Hunter - please elaborate on who hired you in the past, where you learned to be a trained killer, list any significant past targets (e.g. Rebel or Royalist leaders, priests of Pelor, minor nobles, unit commanders, loud female paladins of Avandra, etc.) and a Wishlist with items up to and including 6th level items.

Ken; Talon - perfect backgound so far - poor elven guerrilla fighter (I like it). If you want to add any more detail, that would be outstanding. Wishlist with items up to and including 6th level items.

Mick; Rafiki - explain background, also the PC is trained in religion, what are Rafiki's religious views concerning the civil war? Does Rafiki worship a deity? Wishlist with items up to and including 6th level items.

HISTORY
Hayden was born a house slave to a tribe of Fomorian Giants and for his first 40 years of life he knew only servitude and hardship. He never knew either of his parents but believe them both to be dead.

Dispite his upbringing, he's always felt a strong inate calling of the wild & nature, and developed skills in deception and stealth (& lockpicking) so he could often escape the castle walls & city walls of the high, mountain top Giant city where he lived, to be with nature and the wild.

The icy tundra was too vast and too inhospitable for his tiny Gnome frame though, and he was always recaptured and revived then beaten for escaping. It is a great point of shame among his Formorian tribe to not be able to control their Gnome slaves, so Hayden is a particular  and repeated embarrassment for his host family. It's a wonder his spine is still entact, but he's had most of his bones crushed by a Giant's club at one time or another as punishment for something, usually escaping.

Two years ago, he found his chance to escape from his masters for good by smuggling himself amung the luggage of a traveling merchant, and has been living in hiding outside a Human city ever since, up until very recently when he discovered a bounty hunter, hired by his former captors to save face & recoup their former standing among the tribe. Hayden narrowly avoided capture and just arrived on Grong Island, a hunted fugitive, trusting that the shadow of war will keep all but the most determined bounty hunters from pursuit.

Given a different upbringing, his temperment might be good, or even lawful good, but as it is he is rather tainted and untrusting, and is resolved to do whatever is necessary to survive, be it lie, cheat, steal, or even kill. A stranger to these lands, Hayden enlisted with the rebel forces, viewing them as his best chance to remain hidden from his old life and start anew. His favorite pasttimes are lurking and spying on others, and discovering secrets he's not supposed to know, and of course, comuning with the Feywild. He dreams of someday becoming a mighty spellcaster and laying waste to every Giant he meets, though for now he fears them greatly.

Born in the Deserts of Calisham, as a child Walstar was kidnapped by slave traders. As the Crimson Chains took him through the Windrise Ports, the slavers were attacked by a party of adventurers. Seeing his chance to escape, Walstar escaped in to the woods. After several days alone in the woods, he was found and adopted by a druid. He found his love for nature gaining the skills from his druidic stepfather. As he grew, Walstar wanted to protect nature. He also found he could make a living guiding others through various wooded areas.

On one of these guiding jobs, he was beset upon by his employers, who were actually slavers.  He was brought to the City of Zazesspur (slave city) where he was purchased to become a gladiator slave.  Using the skills he learned from the druid, he excelled.  After earning the name 'Sandwalker' for himself in the local stadiums, his owner decided to move to other venues.

On the way to a new arena, his caravan was attacked.  Never one to pass on an opportunity, Walstar grabbed a shovel.  Much to everyone's surprise, he attacked the bandits.  The children of the gladiatorial owner were by Walstar and he would not see them taken for slaves as he was.  He armed himself with the weapons of a fallen oppenent. He tore through eight of the unsuspecting criminals and then stunned the waylayer leader in a pitched battle.  Having captured nine new students for the dominus and saving his children, Walstar was given his freedom.  

He has come to the Grong Islands to protect the woods and the creatures within.

Background

Davy was born in Cassandra to a poor dwarven family who fell upon great hardship early in his life. Unable to keep the boy they gave him up to the church of Ioun. Davy's early childhood was spent in learning strictures, helping around the church, and playing with whomever he could find which usually meant the street urchins who frequented the church looking for handouts. The priests taught him right from wrong while the street urchins gave their own brand of teaching about the ways of the world beyond the doors of the church.

When he was of age, Davy took advanced training at the church in the form of becoming a runepriest. After his training was complete, the church gave Davy the freedom to bring the teachings of Ioun to the world in whatever way he choose. After a month of talking to his peers and the people of Cassandra Davy made the choice to help with the war on Grong Island would be his best bet to make an impact in the world. Kebru son of a weaver, took up the trade because there simply was no other jobs in town. His real passion was fighting. His grandfather trained young Kebru in swordfighting and archery. Now after returning home from work to find his home burned down and his family locked inside.Kebru suspects the royalist.He joins the rebel group The A- Team and vows to get revenge.Kebru put on his grandfathers Magic armor and it just fits ,and his broadsword still likes the taste of blood.

...as a result of the 16 April session, everyone may upgrade their characters to 3rd level. If you swapped out your PC for a new one and think you might switch back (even for one adventure, depending on what the mission is or who the other PC's happen to be that night), you might wanna leave your old PC posted here.

Again, those who are light on background, please include at least a couple of sentences regarding where your PC came from and/or why they're fighting for the Rebels. Don't forget to add and equip your new magic items. If your PC was carrying "group" items (e.g. healing potions, anti-toxin), were these given permenantly to individual PC's at the end of the adventure?

We'll keep the potions as group items, and I'll distribute them before each adventure. That way whoever shows up for the game can get the benefit of them.

Just a note...

I think someone had James cast Fireball and Glitterdust, he can only cast one or the other during a day.

Wizards get two utility and daily powers to put into their spellbook, then memorize one of the two for casting during a day.

The Wizards Handbook has lots of good info for wizards. Smile
