Did we get the head of the Charnal Lord or some other proof that we killed him? I say we backtrack & finish off the Sahaguin then revisit the tree folk & Quicklings. The Quicklings, though most likely evil, seem to be the best resource we've found so far to finding out where the leaders we need to defeat to get out of here are. Where does everyone else want to go next?

Water Walk
You walk on the water as if it were dry land.

Because of the casting time & duration, we cannot waterwalk everyone before we go back through the Sahaguin room. At 10 minutes casting time & 6 of us, it would take 1 hour to cast the ritual on all of us and the first ritual would have worn off. They destroyed the bridges when we beat them last time, so any ideas on how to proceed? Anyone have, or want me to craft for them, a water walking item?

I say we just keep going forward. If we go back we'll probably just get attacked by the quicklings and the tree guys.

3 Where to Go on Fri Jun 19, 2009 6:27 pm

...is there another way around? If not, we go back with proof that we killed CL.
As far as water walking, I think there might be at least one person w Wavestrider Boots...
If we all can't water walk, perhaps a couple people can carry one or more of the lighter people in the party. Is there anything we can use as a makeshift raft, boat, or floatation device? At the very least, the people walking can have ropes attached to the people swimming.

The hallway with the trap has three exits.

1. The stairs back to the sahuagin room.
2. A door to the south, opposite the stairs
3. A door to the north, on the other side of the trapped floor.


Hmm, I think the image server may be down again... pale


Looks like I have to go to the image server directly instead of using the post buttons.

...is the trap disabled? If so, we should at least look down both the NW and SE doors to see what's behind them. Then we can make a better informed decision on where to go.

I'll carry proof (the smallest critical part of the CL that I can) that we killed the CL in case we have to prove it to someone.

The trap isn't disabled, but Thia can show everyone how the trap triggers and how to avoid it.

Which door does the party want to check first?

check out the one to the NW first.
Standard Order s/b Quinn and Kaddim in the lead, Sonya and Miri next, and Candelos and Thia in back (as we need Candelos close to Thia as he's the only one that can heal her.
Listen, try to open quietly, and bust it if we can't do it quietly.

Hmm, who's checking for traps and listening? Thia and Candelos are the only ones with Perception trained and they're in the back...

Quinn is +17 and Kaddim is +14.
Candelos is +21 and Thia is +26.

Maybe Thia should be next to Quinn or in the row just behind him? That way she can bring that massive Perception bonus into play.

That sounds good. Thia doesn't need watching like she did now that we're full up after an extended rest. Because of their perception checks, let's make traveling SOP Candelos & Thia up front, Quinn & Kaddim next to move up front at the first sign of enemy contact, and Sonya & Miri in the back. We'll use our previous SOP order when opening doors or upfront battles are expected.

The door is unlocked.

Thia and Candelos listen, but don't hear anything.

Quinn opens the door and sees a corridor leading west.

Working on getting an image up...

Does the party continue or go back and check the other door?

Continue. At least until we encounter a potential lair or encounter or something. If the Charnal Lord were to have a treasure room, it'd likely be on this side of the trapped area. :-)

The party continues...

The corridor heads west about 30' then heads north. About 30' to the north is another set of doors.

Candelos and Thia listen and don't hear anything. This door is locked, but Thia easily unlocks it. No traps are detected.

Quinn opens the loor and sees another corridor east/west. To the north is a set of double doors.

This doesn't seem like a treasure room... "Well guys, shall we go back & try the other doors in the CL room and/or take on the Sahaguin again?"

Note: Especially if I haven't crafted anything for you yet, please think of what items you want so I can craft them during our next extended rest. We each have some residuum now and there must be something you'd like to have.

Looking at the map, we keep going turning Right to see if there's another entrance to the Sahaguin room. We will go to such an entrance without opening it. If there is, I think we take them on if they want to challenge us again. Without their Harpy allies, I don't think they'll be much of a match. Anyone who wants to give me 20gp worth of residuum, let me know if you want me to cast 'Water Walking' on you before we take them on...

Ken, for Miri's spells for today, I believe I need to have 4 spells in my spellbook unmemorized...
Miri will study: Magic Missle, Ray of Frost, Scorching Burst, Flaming Sphere, (not Sleep), Force Orb, Shield, (not Feather Fall), Bigby's Icy Grasp, (not Stinking Cloud), Wizard's Escape, (not Dimension Door), and Enemies Abound.

Quinn and Kaddim enter the corridor and take possition east of the doors. Thia listens at the door and hears footsteps (sounds like pacing).

The hallway:
Ahead is a long, hooked corridor. A number of mirrors hang upont the outer wall. Each mirror has what looks like a burning candle in the center of it.

Hmm... pacing seems like either sentries gaurding the door or else an anxious prisoner trapped in a small room. If it's the former, I don't think we want them behind us as we take on the Sahaguin. What does everyone else think? I say after Thia unlocks the door, Thia & Candelos switch places & we open the door... Since this seems like an encounter, I'll wait to hear from other party members first before speaking for the party though.

Candelos and Thia switch places.

Candelos tries the door, its unlocked, but seems to be jammed and doesn't open.

Candelos can hear several footsteps, a few rushing toward the door and several running to the east...
