This is a pretty old post but what do people think of this to convert ourselves to D&D Characters.

Yeah, good for a baseline... hahaha 18 STR, able to break hard objects like wood with their bare hands... hahaha...5" thick pine boards count? I never really thought of myself as 18 STR...

Stuart self assessment
STR 14 (a lot less strong than Ross)
DEX 14 (although I am able to hit a pretty small target w either a pistol or rifle)
CON 12 (although I'm very rarely sick)
INT 16 (not as smart as a Mensen or Ken)
WIS 13
CHA 12

Hahaha....

Prefer a balanced point buy...

Using the link provided, my assessment was:
Str: 13
Dex: 14
Con: 17
Int: 18
Wis: 12
Cha: 10

Using 27 point buy with human mod:
Str: 13
Dex: 12
Con: 16
Int: 16
Wis: 10
Cha: 10

Yes. Balanced Point buy is a good idea.
We'll do a 27 point buy.
You can use this point buy calculator:
https://1-dot-encounter-planner.appspot.com/point-buy-calculator.html

or you can do it yourself using this information:
Ability Score: Cost
18 (+4): 50 points
17 (+3): 23 points
16 (+3): 14 points
15 (+2):  9 points
14 (+2):  7 points
13 (+1):  5 points
12 (+1):  4 points
11 (+0):  3 points
10 (+0):  2 points
9 (−1):  1 point
8 (−1):  0 points

You should try to match up the balanced point buy to your actual stats.

Using the link here are my scores post racial modifiers.

STR: 10
DEX: 16
CON: 9
INT: 15
WIS: 15
CHA: 11

STR is fairly obvious, I'm not winning any strong man competitions. 30 times my score here is 300 which is what 5e says I can push, drag, or lift and I'd say that is fairly accurate.

DEX is probably my best stat as I have very good hand eye coordination. Most things dex based or that use hand to eye coordination I am decent at such as shooting, sports, running, etc. I am slowing down in my old age though and my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be.

CON was one of the hard ones for me. My stamina kinda sucks which is why I put it so low but most everything else related to CON I think I am much better than the score I gave myself. I have an iron gut and can eat anything and things like holding my breath I am very good at or at least used to be.

INT and WIS are hard to distinguish but I like to think I have a decent head on my shoulders. Good at logic puzzles, work in tech, think through most situations, decent grasp of strategy, etc. I've never done an IQ test and didn't go to college so I didn't do the ACT or SAT but I got mostly As in school with a few Bs and was always good at tests. Gave myself the same score for both here.

CHA is low I think but maybe not by much considering the uses in DND. Horrible at deception but that is because of my morals, not because of my ability. I'm not very intimidating. Performance is abyssmal as I lose it when I'm in front of a crowd but with all that said I feel I am personable and well liked by almost everyone. In small group settings I feel I do much better than large groups.

Most of you guys know me pretty well so feel free to critique or comment.

My wife thinks the next game (lvl 0 walking dead style) sounds very interesting. Any chance we could fit her into the party, Ross?

For me, based on 27 points and your links, I'm thinking maybe this?

STR: 10
DEX: 11
CON: 12
INT: 16
WIS: 17
CHA: 9

I've never done anything like this before so feel free to critique. I feel like str and dex must be passable as I do ok at taekwondo. I rarely get sick so I put con a little higher. My worst stat is obviously charisma and then I just dumped the rest into int and wis as I think those are my strongest stats. Is the calculator supposed to add one to each stat or did I get some kind of weird bug?

If my wife can join I'll share this with her and have her make stats too.
