Dark Nights Rising Mini-series

PC rules:
Start at 11th level, races restricted to PHB-1
Items: (1) 12th, (1) 11th, (1) 10th, (1) 9th & (1) 8th in item value. Level 12 item limit.
Each can have two active Tatoo. I.e. Two for being paragon.
Super hero stats: (3) 18s & (3) 14s before racial bonus.

Adventure Rules:
To keep thing flowing: No more than 5 PCs.
Each PC shall be posted prior to playing.
Combat will not be by committee.

Prelude:
Each PC grew up as orphans but always felt special or different from others around them.
At times, they were able to perform extra ordinary feat. Some may regard it as magic. Until one day they were each found by a great master…

First adventure will likely be in late August or early September.
This will be a 5 to 6 adventure mini-series.

What does this mean?

Would this affect PCs that don't have attacks or are penalized for attacking? (attack granting Leader that doesn't attack on their own or a Pacifist Cleric that can't attack bloodied creatures easily).

Once initiative are rolled and combat has started:
- There'll be no open coordination unless you state with a free action "John Doe, go attack that monster."
- no sugesting to other players what actions they should take.
everyone moves their own PC.
- Everyone should know their character and if they don't they may get in trouble.
- violation may result in a lose if a action by the offender's.

I think this will make combat more realistic. More errors and less optimized. I'll explain in more detail the next time I play.

I'd like a spot.
I have Striker, Defender, and Leader setup. I'll determine which to play based on what others want.

We should probably have at least one Striker (with decent DPS) and at least one Leader.

I'm in....(of course)...
I'll play the Leader (like I usually do, I don't mind, it is my favorite role) or if needed, I can play a Defender... if someone else wants to play a Multi-Class Leader, I can play a multi-class Leader so that there will be at least two people that can heal...

For a 5 man team,
A good distribution would be:
2 Strikers (1 melee, 1 ranged),
2 Leaders (each "matching" one of the strikers), and
1 Defender

a) can never have too much healing
b) each leader is a pseudo striker since they're granting the striker another attack.

Well, your Controllers are built more like Strikers than Controllers... there are always exceptions Smile

A "normal" controller is low damage and either locks down opponents with status effects, forced movement, or terrain obstacles.

On a 5 man team you can't afford too many "low damage" characters. That spot is currently taken by the defender.

In general, Leaders, Defenders, and Controllers do about 1/2 the damage a Striker can do.

Its also funny when we have duels and they call out the heavily armed defender who does 1d8+12 damage and ignore the lightly armored striker that does 1d10+25... The defender will generally have better AC, but the striker will do much more damage.

I know you said Westron vets first. Just putting in that I would be happy to play. I would be fine any role that is not leader. Stuart has that covered anyways.

@Raistlin... Mick the DM for this Mini-Series, has put a five player "Cap" on these adventures. Based on past sessions, it is highly unlikely that five "Veteran" citizens will all be able to play on the same day. It is my opinion that your level of play has advanced enough that it would be acceptable if you were the first alternate which means you'd probably get to play in most, if not all, of the five adventures. I'm thinking there are only five "Veteran" citizens left, not including one of them acting as DM.

We might even need a second alternate...
@ Mick - what do you think?

Looks like we have a core group with possible roles of:

Ross: Striker
Stu: Leader
Ken: Leader
Raistlin: Striker (prefered...)

That way the 5th player could be a Defender since they're generally the easiest to plug and play.
If Raistlin plays a Controller or Defender, then the 5th should probably be a Striker.

Of the Strikers, we'll need one to be primarily melee and the other to be ranged. (Still remember that dragon encounter in one of Brad's adventures where we had no ranged strikers and the dragon kept breathing on us...)

Hopefully at least one of the strikers will be an eStriker (strong basic attack).

In a pinch, if we're short players... Kobe is always willing to play either Nekk, (his classic, high AC defender) or Altiaire (Human Rogue Melee Striker)....

@ Ross - since you know the other players best, which one do you think is most ready to play at a slightly higher level of play? If any of them...

Likely going to be a female Warlord for me... yeah, I know... not very original, but I love playing this class. Okay, maybe I'll do the archer warlord this time... if we need some ranged capability.
