Still no offical word but it looks like Diablo 3 beta will happen this summer and hopefully released date for the 2011 holidays.

Anyone get it yet? I'm still waiting to get mine from New Egg, but have heard lots of people are having troubles because of server overload.

I picked it up at frys after work.
installed it after the kids went to bed. install went smoothly.
Tried to login in at about 9:45 and wasn't able to.
At the login screen there was a box called Diablo news saying server were being maintananced and would be back up at 11:45.

try login on at midnight and was able.
created a barbarian and played to 2:00.
The game feel is just like D2 but with greater graphics.

I was able to play yesterday during the day and some around midnight after the midnight launch debacle on Monday. Got my barb to level 8.

Do they force you to have a number after your name?

Yeah. You type in a battletag and so far everyone I have seen has the #NNNN format after their name.

My Barb is 8th also. Just recovered the kings crown.
So far a great game when you can get on.
A couple things I wish Diablo had that is in Guild Wars are:
being able to Change the 3-party view. it's fixed in D3 as far as I can tell.
being able customize the character body & facial features. A party of barbs will all look about the same depending on their equipment. In GW you could custom to be short or fat, skin color, hear style.

I know they have dyes starting in act 2. Not sure what else they will allow for customization.

I have a 16th lev Wizard. Does alot of damage (like a striker) but gets beat up more now that I'll started act 2.
My 9th level Barbarian can can stand toe to toe but doesn't do alot of damage (like a defender).
I also started a Demon Hunter but she's more of a mule to store extra stuff.

I only have one character. Do your characters share the same storage stash like previous versions?

Yes, that's why I have a low level character for a mule.

You can add 14 slots at 10,000 gp each time.

I've been trying to catch up to Chris in level but can't. He must play alot.

Alright, this free version SUCKS!! I've installed it 2x now & once it let me play for a little while, but it keeps turning off my computer after a couple minutes.

Except for the bugs, it's kinda fun. All the old favorites, Tristam, Decard Cain, etc., but I never know when my computer will turn off while playing (except that it's usually very quick).

Is there a particular place that's cheaper to buy it? I assume the paid version doesn't turn off your computer while you're playing...

Lots of people are seeing the problem with the free and retail versions. It seems to be a problem the way the game uses the video resources and overheats things.

You mean the same thing will happen if I buy the game? That sucks. After geting my butt kicked 2x, I finally stocked way up on healing & beat the Skeleton King, so now there's no more quests unless & spend some $$. (Level 10 Monk)

Brad, don't you have the same computer as Mick? I don't think he has that problem.
Maybe you can turn down the graphics so its not using so much of your system resources.

He may need updated video card drives.

I update video card drivers laste year when Battlefield 3 came out.
I haven't had any problems. I bought a retail copy from Frys.

A few questions...

Do you guys mostly play solo?
In groups are there any level restrictions?
Do you have to create new characters for multiplayer?

You can use any PC in multiplayer. No level restrictions but just like DnD if you add a high level PC the monsters will get tougher. They hit harder, get more hits and have better AC, I think. Just hop into a game with us. I tend not to hop into other's solo games because of the monster boosts, but I don't mind people jumping in to mine.

I play both solo and multi. It depends if anybodys on. I play after 10 PM mostly.
I've been play with Damon lately since my monk and his monk were around the same level.

I have a 38L DHunter, 30L Monk, 20L Wiz & 8L Barb.

Oh and feel free to hop into ventrilo to make communication easier. It's the same sign in info as its been for years.

Okay, I bought the game now. (Thanks Ross!) I have a 28th level Monk & a 12th level Wizard. What's the secret to beating Balial? He's killed me a few times & I haven't come close to beating him...

I haven't done any friend invites since I never knew when the game would crash but that doesn't seeem to happen as often now. I'll start accepting friend requests.

Balial is one of the toughest since you have very little area to run too.

I went the route of trying to out last him.
Beside finding items with dex for damage, look for items with vitality to boost hits.
Get a weapon that give you hits for every time you hit an enemy.
Get some items with resistance. Resistance all are tough to find, so look for resistance physical and poison.
Get items with regenerate.
There's a mantra that gives you good regen for a short period of time.

Sure are a lot of monks running around...

From what I've read online, most people favor the monk, wizard and demon hunter.
Only one I haven't played is the witch doc.

Belial is tough but doable once you know some general tips.

He has a "tell" when he is about to smack you with his arms. With my barb, the templar built as a healer, and some lifesteal items/skills I am able to keep attacking through those attacks. However there is a point when he raises his arms and tons of "bombs"/green disks start raining down. These follow you around and you need to stop attacking and run to any safe spot ahead of the disks. If more than one explode on you it can be lights out. If you have any damage reduction it is a good idea to save it for this time.

Last time I fought him in nightmare it took me two tries to beat him. The second time I thnk there were three times he used the carpet bomb thing where I had to run around.

I've tried all of them, and have gotten all of them up to at least 30 except the witch doctor, who is by far the weakest class. So far the toughest seems to be the monk with barbarian a close second. Then demon hunter and wizard.

Anyone know how to "redo" levels?

Trying to go back and kill some of the previously defeated bosses again for items/gold.

Can't get past Diablo and spent over 20k on repair/potions and starting to run low.

I can kill him pretty easily the first and second time, but haven't been able to the third...
