1 Buffyverse - 24 Nov - Treasure on Mon Nov 26, 2012 10:59 pm

Okay, we have:

+ 4 Un-named Sword
+ 4 Cloak of Protection
Eladrin Boots

Okay, the boots are 16th (45K gp) and 2 to the max range you can teleport. As a Daily action (Move) you can teleport up to 5 squares or 10 if you're an Eladrin. Note, the daily power of the boots does not benefit from the + 2 to range property.

On the cloak, there's no "Cloak of Protection"; there's an Amulet of Protection and a Cloak of Resistance. I'm going to assume Brad meant, Amulet of Protection.

Kenneday has no need at all for the sword or the cloak and could only get minor use from the boots as Kenneday doesn't teleport.

Can anyone use these? Paladin's defenses seemed low, can he use the Amulet? I think Ross or Scott should get the boots.

Oh, Brad, can I assume that the "misc items and components" we found more than cover the $15k we had to spend to rent the helicopter? If so, how much do we have left over?

I don't need the boots, but would take them as backup if nobody else wants them.

No use for those items here... I suggest we dust them and split the residum if no one can use them.

I agree with dusting for residum.

We move to 19th right.
Can a PC retrain their paragon path?

From the Compendium:
Retraining
Sometimes a player makes decisions when creating or advancing a character that he or she later regrets. Perhaps a chosen power isn’t working with the character concept, or a feat never comes into play as anticipated. Fortunately, no one is stuck with bad character decisions. There’s an opportunity to change a decision whenever the character levels up.

Every time a character gains a level, he or she can retrain. This involves changing one feat, power, or trained skill. Only one change is allowed per level. If the player book says to replace one of the character’s powers with a different power of a higher level, replacing the power doesn’t count as retraining. The character can still retrain a feat, some other power, or a trained skill.

Replacing a Feat
Retraining can replace one feat with another. The character must meet the prerequisites of the new feat. A feat can’t be replaced if it’s a prerequisite for any of the character’s other attributes (such as another feat or a paragon path) or if the feat is a feature of his or her class, paragon path, or epic destiny.

Replacing a Power
Retraining can replace a power with another power of the same type: at-will attack power, encounter attack power, daily attack power, or utility power. The new power must have a level, be of the same level as or lower in level than the old power, and come from the same class—a 5th-level cleric daily attack power for another 5th-level cleric daily attack power, for instance, or a 22nd-level utility power for a different 22nd-level utility power.

Retraining doesn’t allow replacing a power that has no level, such as a cleric’s healing word; a power designated as a feature; or a power gained from a paragon path or an epic destiny. If a power has no level but you chose it from a list of powers, you can replace it with a different power from that list.

Replacing a Trained Skill
Retraining can replace one trained skill with another from the character’s list of class skills. A skill can’t be replaced if it’s a prerequisite for a feat, a power, or any other attribute of the character, or if it’s predetermined by class (such as Arcana for wizards and Religion for clerics).

If the character’s class requires the choice of one of two skills (such as either Dungeoneering or Nature), retraining can alter the choice, but the character is limited to replacing one skill with the other.

Oh yeah, I meant cloak of resistance (but amulet of protection is fine too).

I'll say the car of loot you captured had 50k worth of residuum (NO resale value but valuable) plus 250k worth of high tech gear sellable for half. HOWEVER, you also returned the helicopter 6/7 totalled and owe for the full price of a new helicopter. (in addition to the 15k rent) What is full retail on a new chopper?

Not a lot of treasure this adventure, but could have been a heck of a lot if the party didn't let it all escape... Sad

Shortly after the Slayers return from Germany, the Slayers have fitful dreams again about being attacked by other Slayers on the night of the New Moon and on that night gain a level to 19th... "The tRUtH is coming!" echoes in your dreams...

Hmmm...a Helicopter? A new UH-1H goes for a minimum of $175,000.00. Being in the aerospace industry, if the unit is still airworthy (and ours was) it is often way cheaper to have an aircraft repaired than to buy a new one. The secondary and aftermarket Suppliers who are authorized to keep the industry awash with spare parts are fairly tiered in thier pricing. If you have an AOG (Aircraft On Ground) they'll charge you a bazillion bucks. If you have a "routine" repair, you can shop around and usually find parts pretty cheap.

The copter's got to be insured, the owner just needs to file a claim. Heck, if the airplane you chartered for a few days was hit by the food catering truck at the airport, you wouldn't expect to pay for the damage to the plane now, would you? In most rental contracts, even for aircraft, the Owner is still liable for all maintenance and repairs during the rental period. If it's a lease (longer than a year), often the lessor will take that on, but that's not the case here. If we really wanted to, I suppose we could file a claim against the German Vampire's, as we know who they are.

Bottom line, I think we'd owe the owner for nothing more than the cost of an increased insurance premium and the downtime while the copter is being repaired; but the downtime might even be covered by insurance - kinda like getting a free loaner car. Max, IMHO we'd owe no more than x2 rent, or another $15K.

No. way. at. all. You are who they hold responsible.

Post Script: The pilot who flew into 2 dangerous situations and was afraid for his life was also SORELY disappointed that you offered him no tip at all, let alone a generous one for his efforts...

Being from WR&H, I'll task a Contracts Attorney to review the merits of the Helicopter company's claim for damages. If the claim is w/o legal merit, then we'll ignore the helicopter company until they file a claim in court. If in the opinion of our staff attorney, the helicopter company's claim has merit, then we'll initiate a review of any insurance policies any of the slayers may have (someone must have a universal $1M umbrella policy) and if so, file an insurance claim to mitigate the damages.

We'll give the pilot a "tip" of $5K for now.

That's thinking like a dept head of a major law firm... Smile

Blade is the new head of the legal dept (& secrets), but only has forged credentials. Blade gets the top contracts attorney to review the case with you and says, "Too bad the pilot lived", "...as far as these contracts are concerned anyway, of course", he quickly added after remembering who his new bosses are. "His testimony that you had him to fly into Castle Strahd and attacked it with explosives as he flew off, then had him chase down the car that shot up the helicopter, suggests you knew of and created the situation that damaged the copter, plus, it is pretty damning evidence of unlawful intent, which gives them a case."

"If the pilot were out of the picture, however, then all we'd need to do is think of a legal reason why you blew up a thousand year old castle and flew into the public shootout that damaged the copter, then I can forge the necessary docs to tear apart this contract in court..." He added, "It all hinges on silencing that pilot though, as he's the only witness... and from what I understand of your treaty with the High Council, you don't want his testimony of your magic use entered as public record in court either... unless you WANT the Great Harvest to begin right away..." Twisted Evil

"Did you want to make a call down to Wetworks on the 2nd floor and have me get started on this case?..."

I doubt there would be a trial since Strahd probably doesn't want the high council to know we attacked and killed enough of their members to have them culled.

If the pilot started sounding off, I'm sure the vampires would quiet him pretty quickly.

We could offer him a job in the states and tell him it'll be in his best interest to accept. We can always use a trained pilot. Smile

I like the Android's idea. We'll offer the pilot a job with WR&H in the USA and explain to him in no uncertain terms why accepting the job is in his best interest.

Guess no one else is going to chime in...

The 'Ancient Treasure' remembers well the old ways of the Vampire covens, before the time of secrecy. But, Ember, as department head of magic & relics, in researching prophesies about the Slayers, knows this is a mixed blessing for the Von Zorovich coven. Yes, the High Coucil will cull their coven down from 15 to 12, but the coven responsible for bringing about the Great Harvest will recieve high honors at the same time...

The pilot didn't want to sound totally crazy, so reported about the close fly in to Castle Strahd, the c4, and the chasing down the car that shot out the helicopter. He left out all the magic, Undead, and turning to dust or mist.

The pilot seems open to moving to the US. He has a wife & 10 yr old daughter.

Kenneday, how much do you offer him to relocate & salary? (I.e., are we going for an intimidate check, or a diplomacy check?)

Also, if he's still alive, are you asking him to purger his previous testimony to the insurance agents, and what would you like his new story to be?

Ember also found a stone tablet in the 'Slayer Prophesies' section of her department:

"Half to darkness, half stay light,
Half with pain, half stay right.
Battles done, and quests won.
Endless night can be undone."

Hmmm...okay, Kenneday will conference with Ember, the Android (what was her name again?), and the other slayers. We'll try Diplomacy +20 first, offering a generous salary at WR&H (at least a 20% raise) and a one time "signing" bonus equal to $50K that should help pay for relocation and moving expenses.

We'll see what kind of response our "offer" yields. If the offer gets a cold reception, we'll consider intimidate instead. Nah, he doesn't have to change his story, he just won't be available anymore to confirm his testimony, think of it like he's in "protective custody". e.g. new names, new identifications, etc. I'm sure WR&H can easily do this type of thing.

Let me know what the other Slayers say and what the response to our offer is.

Umm, I'll speak for the NPCs, but go ahead and let the players speak for the PCs. Very Happy
